Ravian Physicists Club

Ravian Physicists Club Physics The Department of Physics is the oldest Science Department imparting instructions at the Postgraduate level at GCU. Khan Research Laboratories.

We take pride in the contributions of Ravian Physicists towards the prosperity and national security of Pakistan. The Department's old boys occupy positions of eminence at national organizations of science and technology. Our scientists are on top at prestigious organizations like the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) and the Dr. A.Q. Many are serving abroad. Our alumni have bagged 44 Civil

Awards, which is the highest number of Civil Awards won by physicists from any educational or research institution in Pakistan. With this history of excellence, we expect Ravian Physicists in the years to come to explore new horizons. Research Laboratories

There are several well-equipped research laboratories to carry out research work in Plasma Physics and Technology, Nano-materials, Concrete and Ceramic, Materials Science, Electronic Control Systems and Radiation Physics. These laboratories are publishing their research work in international Journals. Theoretical Research

Groups are actively engaged in the research problems related to Theoretical Plasma Physics, Space plasmas, Laser Matter Interaction, Particle Physics and Radiation Physics.

Imagine that you are trying to remember a fairly unusual word that you rarely use, such as one for that sloping floor often found in cinemas and lecture halls. You search your memory. It’s something like ramp… perhaps rad…ial? No, not that. Rake, that’s it!

The process of searching through similar words to find the right one is reminiscent of the associative memory that this year’s physics laureate John Hopfield discovered in 1982. The Hopfield network can store patterns and has a method for recreating them. When the network is given an incomplete or slightly distorted pattern, the method can find the stored pattern that is most similar.

The Hopfield network stores information in a manner similar to shaping a landscape. The method is special because several pictures can be saved at the same time and the network can usually differentiate between them. The Hopfield network can also be used to recreate data that contains noise or which has been partially erased.

The 2024 Nobel Prize in Physics has been awarded to John J. Hopfield and Geoffrey E. Hinton “for foundational discoveries and inventions that enable machine learning with artificial neural networks.”

An international research team has proven that the imaginary part of quantum mechanics can be observed in action in the real world. For almost a century, physicists have been intrigued by the fundamental question: why are complex numbers so important in quantum mechanics, that is, numbers conta
