District-Level Pre-Budget Consultation for Girls’ Education – Sanghar

A district-level pre-budget consultation on girls’ education was held in Sanghar, organized by Champions for Change and Thar Education Alliance with support from the Malala Fund.

Headmistresses and head teachers from girls’ schools, as well as boys’ schools with enrolled girls, participated in discussions on SMCs, SSB, and key school-level challenges. Participants emphasized that the current budget does not fully reflect ground realities, especially regarding washrooms, boundary walls, solar systems, transportation, and the shortage of female teachers in boys’ schools.

Female teachers also shared challenges related to vendor management, data collection, and administrative responsibilities due to limited lower staff support.

Girls in Tharparkar are stepping towards a brighter and more independent future through skills development and digital education.

In collaboration with Bank Alfalah, Thar Education Alliance (TEA) successfully completed a four-month stitching and embroidery training programme in Mithi, where 25 girls were awarded certificates and sewing machines to help them start earning from home and support their families.

The event also marked the launch of a web development course for another group of girls, highlighting the growing importance of digital opportunities in Thar.

Speakers appreciated the initiative and emphasized that empowering girls with vocational and technology skills is creating confidence, dignity, and new pathways for economic independence.

Thar Education Alliance (TEA), with the support of the Malala Fund, organised a session on gender-responsive budget financing to discuss effective and inclusive allocation of education funds in the upcoming budget at Larkana.

The workshop, hosted by District Coordinator Musarrat Soomro, brought together Deputy District Education Officer Raziya Arijo, Mehjabeen Bhutto, Taluka Education Officer Saeeda Abbasi, and headmistresses from various government schools.

Speaking on the occasion, Musarrat Soomro said the session aimed to develop joint recommendations to ensure need-based financing for education, particularly focusing on girls’ education and equal opportunities in schools across the district.

Sukkur District Coordinator Jawad Mirani also shared key statistics, policy insights, and practical strategies related to education budget financing, highlighting the importance of gender-responsive planning to improve access to quality education.

Empowering Girls Through Skills

Thar Education Alliance proudly launched its Web Development Training Program under the initiative “Girls in Skill Empowering Girls Through Skill,” marked by a successful opening and project launch ceremony.

After a competitive online application and interview process, 25 talented trainees were selected to become part of this exciting journey toward digital learning and professional growth.

This impactful program has been initiated by Thar Education Alliance with the generous support of Bank Alfalah, aiming to equip youth especially young girls with essential web development and digital skills that can create better career opportunities and a brighter future.

We believe this initiative will not only empower these trainees with knowledge and confidence but will also contribute toward positive change and sustainable development within the community.
