Why are some professors unnecessarily harsh with students?

Attendance policies are being enforced so strictly that students are being prevented from attempting exams, despite paying full fees. Teachers are meant to guide, support, and safeguard students’ futures—not jeopardize them. Education should be about understanding, mentorship, and growth, especially considering the difficult economic and social conditions of our country. Professors should act as educators and mentors, not as obstacles to students’ academic progress.

Professors should focus on understanding why attendance is low and whether a student is facing personal, financial, or other difficult circumstances, rather than enforcing policies without consideration. A supportive and empathetic approach helps ensure that students are guided toward success instead of being penalized in ways that may harm their academic future.

Some students may be going through depression or other mental health challenges. In such situations, educators should act as compassionate mentors and guardians, offering guidance and support rather than behaving in a way that feels adversarial. A teacher’s role is to nurture, understand, and protect a student’s future.
