President confers Tamgha-i-Imtiaz on SU VC Dr Fateh Muhammad Marri in recognition to his outstanding services to higher education, agriculture economy
JAMSHORO: President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari has conferred the prestigious Tamgha-i-Imtiaz upon Sindh University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Fateh Muhammad Marri in recognition of his outstanding services in the fields of higher education and agricultural economics.
Dr Marri received his award at a ceremony held in Aiwan-e-Sadr, where the President of Pakistan conferred upon him the award.
Dr Fateh Marri is widely regarded as one of Pakistan’s distinguished agricultural economists and academic leaders. He currently serves as the Vice-Chancellor of University of Sindh and had previously held the office of Vice-Chancellor at Sindh Agriculture University Tandojam.
Holding a PhD in Agricultural Economics, Dr Marri has made significant contributions to educational reforms, academic governance and policy planning in Pakistan’s higher education sector. During his tenure at the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan, where he served as Member Operations and Planning as well as Acting Executive Director, he played a pivotal role in steering reforms aimed at modernising universities across the country.
His leadership became particularly prominent during the Covid-19 pandemic when he spearheaded initiatives for the expansion of online education and digital learning platforms, enabling universities to continue academic activities amid unprecedented disruptions. Several reform-oriented projects and initiatives launched under his supervision received international recognition and awards.
Academics, educationists, civil society and all stakeholders of the University of Sindh have congratulated Dr Marri on receiving the national civil award, describing it as a proud moment for the academic community of Sindh and a recognition of his long-standing services to education, research and institutional development in Pakistan.
