HOW TO DRIVE IN SNOWY ROAD:::

HOW TO DRIVE ON SNOW AND ICY ROADS
1. All of the controls on your vehicle that includes brakes, steering, acceleration and gears shifting should be operated slowly and smoothly.
2. Gently accelerate the vehicle using low gare shift to a higher gear as quickly as possible.
3. Keep your speed down and give yourself enough time to brake and steer.
4. To reduce the chances of the wheels slipping, use the second gear instead of the first gear.
5. Maintain a greater braking distance between your car and the vehicle in front of you
Leave as much as ten times the usual recommended gap.
6. When climbing hills, leave plenty of room in front of the car so you can maintain a steady speed without the need for changing gear/ acceleration.
7. When driving downhill, use a low gear for going downhill. Shift down and use engine braking to slow the car. Try to avoid braking unless absolutely necessary. If needed the brakes, apply gently.
8. Normally 30 psi is maintained in cars while we drive in normal conditions. But in case of driving in snow, limit the air pressure in the tires to 15 psi. Low pressure improves tyre traction and grip.
9. Keep a pair of snow chains. Apply chains respectively if you are driving:
a. Front Wheel Drive: Apply both the chains on front wheels.
b. Rare Wheel Drive: Apply both the chains on rare wheels.
c. 4x4 Drive: Apply one on front (Left/ Right) and the other on rare (Right/Left) wheel. Application of the snow chains should always be in opposite direction.
10. If the car begins to skid, don't get try panic. If the rear of the car is sliding to the left then steer to the left. You absolutely must not take your hands off the steering wheel or slam your foot on the brakes.
11. In case you are stuck in snow, don't get panic. Do the following:
A. Turn off the engine. It throws Carbon Monoxide. If the thick snow stops the exhaust, it CO emissions can enter into the cabin. It's lethal and has the capacity to kill the passengers inside the cabin.
B. Use thick shawls and jackets to keep yourself warm. Don't use heaters.
C. You must have sufficient water and food inside the cabin. Bring warm water in thermostatic bottles.
12. When driving through thick snow, make sure to turn on the headlights. If visibility drops below 100m, turn on your fog lamps.
13. Last but not the least... Patience is highly recommended while driving in hillside. Don't rush. Remember, panic kills. So be patient while driving in Snow.
