Under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Ahmad Ur Rahman Saljoqi, Vice Chancellor, Islamia College Peshawar successfully inaugurated the 3rd International Conference in a remarkably short span of time. The conference, titled “International Conference on Multidisciplinary Research in Basic Sciences and Technology,” was sponsored by the Pakistan Science Foundation.
The conference was organized under the leadership of Chief Organizer Dr. Safeer Ahmad Arbab, while Dr. Muhammad Umar and Dr. Syeda Nadia Shah served as Stage Secretaries. The event spanned two days and brought together scholars, researchers and keynote speakers from both national and international institutions.
In his address, the Vice Chancellor emphasized the significance of such conferences, workshops, and academic sessions in strengthening research culture and enhancing academic excellence. He highlighted that these platforms are vital for knowledge sharing and innovation.
The Chief Guest, Additional Secretary, Higher Education, Archives & Libraries Department, Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Mr. Muhammad Farooq Khan appreciated the efforts of the incumbent administration and organizing committee. He also acknowledged the valuable support of the Pakistan Science Foundation, Islamabad. He remarked that universities are centers of research and out-of-the-box thinking, stressing that higher education institutions must actively pursue improvements in academics, research, legislation and financial management while upholding their autonomy.
The Vice Chancellor welcomed all participants, guests and keynote speakers and expressed gratitude for their contributions. He also extended special thanks to Prof. Dr. Muhammad Akmal, Chairman PSF and Dr. Ghazala Ali Khan Director PASTIC for their continued support and cooperation.

Dr. Khalid Haseeb, Assistant Professor, was honored with a Certificate of Recognition by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) on April 27, 2026, in Peshawar. The award was presented by Honorable Meena Khan Afridi, Minister of Higher Education, Archives and Libraries Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the presence of the Prof. Dr. Ahmad Ur Rehman Saljoqi, Vice Chancellor Islamia College Peshawar and other distinguished officials.
This recognition was conferred in acknowledgment of Dr. Khalid Haseeb’s outstanding research contributions and his consecutive inclusion in the prestigious Stanford University Top 2% Scientists list, reflecting his global research impact.

In line with the guidelines of the Higher Education Commission (HEC), the NCHD and Islamia College Peshawar have formally signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote literacy through the “Each One Teaches One” (EOTO) initiative.

The partnership aims to actively engage university students in community-based educational activities, encouraging them to contribute towards improving literacy rates in underserved areas. Under this collaboration, students will participate in volunteer-driven teaching efforts, embodying the spirit of social responsibility and national development.

The “Each One Teaches One” (EOTO) program was initiated in response to the education emergency declared by the Prime Minister of Pakistan in 2024, reinforcing national efforts to address literacy challenges through community participation and youth engagement.

The MoU was signed by Professor Dr. Ahmad ur Rehman Saljoqi, Vice Chancellor, Islamia College Peshawar and Director Operations NCHD Mr Anwar Iqbal.

The signing ceremony was attended by Registrar Dr. Qasim Mansoor jalali, Mr. Junaid Mehmood along with faculty members of the university. Representatives from NCHD including Mr. Shams Khan, Mr. Ejaz Khan and Mr. Ibrahim Jain were also present on the occasion.

Speaking at the event, both sides emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts in addressing literacy challenges and highlighted the role of youth as catalysts for social change. The initiative reflects a shared commitment to empowering communities through education and fostering a culture of volunteerism among students.

The “Each One Teaches One” initiative is a flagship approach aimed at mobilizing individuals to teach at least one illiterate person, thereby contributing to the national goal of increasing literacy rates across Pakistan.

*Where History Lives: A Visit to Islamia College Library*

Wilma van der Maten and Aaqib Amir of Asian Travel Pioneers, along with author and historian Farrukh Husain, visited the historic Islamia College Library. They were warmly received by Chairman Department of Management Sciences Dr Raza Ullah Khan and graciously guided through the collection by Mr Tahseen, the Librarian.

The visitors showed keen interest in the manuscripts and archival photographs on display. On this occasion, Farrukh Husain presented his book Afghanistan in the Age of Empires to the hosts.

Established in 1913, the Islamia College Library houses a rich and rare collection of manuscripts, including the renowned Ghulam Jilani Collection, which was donated to the library in 1915.
