The college was established in 1963 in a rented building by a social organization “Imamia Educational Society (Regd)” on volunteer basis. A piece of land was allotted in 1967 to the college by Syed Mustafa Zaidi, known literary figure and the worthy Deputy Commissioner od Sahiwal at that time. The foundation stone of Science Block was placed by Syed Qasim Rizvi Commissioner Multan Division in 1969
. In 1972, the college was Nationalized by The Government and named as “Govt. Imamia College “. Library block of the college was established in 1986. New teaching block was constructed in 1996-97. Now the college is functioning with Science Block, Old Block, New Block, Library Block, Admin Block, and Lush Green Lawns and vast Play ground etc. There are bout30 staff members and the strength of students during current session is about 1000+
