THE NEWS REPORT "Character Building Society and Department of Psychology, University of Sargodha, organized a speech and essay writing competition on behalf of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Lahore followed by a seminar on “Moral Corruption vs True Character: Who we are when values are tested”. The event was held under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Najma Iqbal Malik, Chairperson of the Department of Psychology, University of Sargodha. The competition aimed to promote integrity, accountability, ethical values, character building, and students’ public-speaking skills.
The speeches and essays were assessed by worthy judges including Prof. Dr Ijaz Asghar Bhatti, Chairman, Department of English Linguistics and Language; Dr Zarina Qasim, Chairperson of the Department of English; Mr Daim Iqbal, Assistant Registrar, Riaz Shad Co-Curricular Forum; and Dr Shoaba Mujeed, Assistant Professor in the Department of Urdu Language and Literature. The chief guest, Dr. Mahmood-ul-Hasan, Chairman of the Department of Economics and Director of Student Affairs (DSA), graced the occasion and shared his insightful thoughts on moral corruption, more specifically with relevance to academic institutes.
The competition gave students an opportunity to express their ideas, present their arguments, and demonstrate their speaking skills. Prof. Dr Najma Iqbal Malik, as spokesperson, shared her thoughts on the importance of character building, ethical responsibility, and students’ personal and academic development in the seminar. The participation of distinguished guests added academic significance to the event and encouraged students to engage in meaningful discussions.
The speech competition highlighted the importance of integrity, accountability, confidence, and effective communication. It provided students with a valuable platform to develop their abilities and understand their responsibilities as individuals and members of society. Overall, the event reflected the commitment of the Department of Psychology and the Character Building Society to propagate the agenda of NAB in promoting ethical awareness and fighting against corruption among students."
