Sialkot is one of the leading export cities of Pakistan. Its main exports are leather, leather products, sports goods and surgical instruments etc. The area has been involved in the Tanning from centuries. Earlier, focus was on low quality leather products on small scale. Leather Industry Development Organization (LIDO) now merged with Export Promotion Bureau had established a Leather Products Dev
elopment Center (LPDC) at Sialkot in 1985 to impart training in leather Gloves Manufacturing. With the passage of time, industry expanded, diversification took place, which resulted in the demand of high quality leather products with modern touch. It has therefore become necessary requirement to work for the adoption of modern technology for the production of standardized value added leather products. A survey conducted by Cleaner Production Center (CPC) Sialkot revealed that there are 250 tanneries of different sizes in Sialkot. In order to support diversification drive, the LIDO prepared a scheme for up gradation of Leather Products Development Center to Leather Products Development Institute. The proposal was approved and completed out of Export Development Fund. LPDI PRESENT:
Leather Products Development Institute is committed to excellence and exploring creativity in Leather Garments Designing and Sports Industry. The core aspect of the Institute is to ensure that every individual leaves with full understanding of theoretical and practical aspects of the fashion designing applied in the leather industry. Leather and leather products are the second largest foreign exchange earning source of Pakistan. To adopt modern techniques for the production of leather and leather made ups according International demands, Leather Products Development Institute came into being on 12th March 2001.
