BJCEM (Bjcem Aisbl) – Biennale of Young Artists from Europe and the Mediterranean – is a network of 47 members, ranging from cultural institutions to independent organizations, with partnerships across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. Its mission is to foster mutual understanding, intercultural dialogue, and collaboration in the arts among young creators.
Throughout the 19 previous editions of the Biennale, the participating countries have changed, reflecting the evolving structure of the BJCEM network at that time. The Call has been launched in countries where BJCEM members actively supported launching the Call. As a result, the number of participating countries varied with each edition.
In this edition, BJCEM has taken a new step by opening the Call in countries where it currently does not have members or where members are unable to launch the Call. The organization is actively working to secure funding to support the participation of 3 to 5 artists from these countries, reaffirming its commitment to dialogue and inclusivity across the Euro-Mediterranean region.
Mediterranea 20 will take place in collaboration with European Capital of Culture 2025 Nova Gorica - Gorizia and ŠKUC Association. The event will run from May 31st to June 4th, 2025, in Nova Gorica/Gorizia.
The theme of this Biennale is "Borderless," aligning with the motto of GO! 2025. Nova Gorica and Gorizia share a unique mission as the European Capital of Borderless Culture. Nova Gorica, built from scratch after World War II, emerged along the border between Italy and Slovenia. In contrast, Gorizia is an ancient cultural, administrative, and economic center with deep historical roots.
Deadline for submissions: October 31st, 2024 – 9 pm CEST
