🚀 EUTOPIA_HEALTH Hackathon 2026 | Call for Applications (Deadline: 14 June)

We are pleased to invite researchers to apply for an exciting hackathon taking place from September to October 2026 in Lisbon ☀️

Four health-related challenges have been proposed by non-academic partners: Farmácias Holon, EVITA, NTT DATA and Testa & Cunha. Interdisciplinary teams of researchers at all career stages, including PhD candidates, will collaborate to co-develop innovative solutions addressing real-world challenges.

The hackathon will include three main moments:
• 16 September: Online session
• 16 September – 27 October: Online mentoring period
• 27–29 October: Onsite sessions in Lisbon

Using Design Thinking and other methodologies, participants will develop and refine ideas with continuous feedback from partners, aiming to improve citizens’ health and well-being.

🚀 Have an idea that could drive real change?

The NOVA impACT! Challenges are back — an initiative powered by the NOVA Impact Office to support innovative projects tackling one or more of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

If you're building a solution with meaningful social and/or environmental impact, this is your chance to take it to the next level.

Over three weeks (Jun 23 – Jul 13, 2026) selected teams will take part in an immersive experience that includes:

✨ 3 workshops - Social Entrepreneurship / IP Protection / Pitching Strategies
✨ Tailored mentoring from experienced professionals
✨ €500 in seed funding for the selected projects
✨ A final live pitch at NOVA’s Rectorate before a jury of academic and industry leaders

🏆 The winning team will receive an additional €2,000 prize to support the further development of their project and maximise its impact.

Who can apply? Teams of 2–5 members from any Portuguese university — students (all levels), researchers, and recent graduates (up to 5 years post-degree). Multidisciplinary teams are a plus!

🔬✨ Portuguese Innovation Changing Cancer Detection — Paula Videira Named Finalist for the European Inventor Award 2026

Paula Videira, professor at FCT-UNL [Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia da Universidade Nova de Lisboa] and director of UCIBIO, has been named a finalist in the “Research” category of the European Inventor Award 2026 by the European Patent Office.

Together with her team, she developed L2A5 — a groundbreaking antibody capable of distinguishing cancer cells from healthy tissue with unprecedented precision, opening new possibilities for targeted cancer therapies.

This recognition highlights the excellence and global impact of Portuguese research in oncology.
