In his latest article for Jornal Económico, professor Pedro Gardete reflects on the role of universities in today's society, as well as the values that continue to define 's identity.
From urban crime and territorial control to financial inclusion in developing economies, and from migration and human capital to the functioning of financial markets, some of today's most important questions are being addressed by research at Nova SBE.
Recent examples include:
• A study in Econometrica by professor Nikita Melnikov and co-authors on the territorial impact of gangs in El Salvador, showing how restricted mobility affects income and living conditions;
• Research by professors Catia Batista and Pedro Vicente on the effects of mobile money in rural Mozambique, highlighting its impact on financial resilience and migration patterns;
• Work by professor Nicholas Hirschey and co-authors on the U.S. municipal bond market, the system that finances schools, roads and water infrastructure, which reveals inefficiencies with real implications for public policy.
