[PT] I Colóquio Internacional de Pós-graduação em Filosofia

Com os objetivos de dinamizar redes de conhecimento e explorar novas hipóteses de investigação filosófica, o Instituto de Estudos Filosóficos (IEF) com o apoio da Faculdade de Letras da Universidade de Coimbra (FLUC) dinamiza um colóquio de pós-graduação para os dias 17, 18 e 19 de junho. O evento terá lugar no anfiteatro III, no piso 4 da FLUC.

O colóquio visa criar momentos de partilha de conhecimento e proporcionar o diálogo entre investigadores de áreas tão distintas como a Ética, a Filosofia Política, a Estética e a Filosofia da Educação.

Destacamos, por isso, as lições inaugurais de especialistas de reconhecido mérito que abrirão os blocos de reflexão em cada área:
• Prof. Doutor Giovanni Damele, dia 17 de junho pelas 14:30, na Filosofia Política;
• Prof. Doutor Vítor Moura, dia 18 de junho pelas 9:00, na Estética;
• Prof.ª Doutora Maria José Figueiroa-Rego, dias 18 de junho pelas 14.30, na Filosofia da Educação;
• Prof.ª Doutora Fernanda Bernardo, dia 19 de junho pelas 9:00, na Ética.

A estas intervenções seguir-se-ão apresentações de projetos individuais da parte de investigadores em início de carreira.

Damos ainda lugar a outras problemáticas filosóficas como a relação entre o corpo e a alma, filosofia da mente e a muito atual questão do mundo digital.

A sessão inaugural, dedicada ao tema da democracia, será da responsabilidade do Prof. Doutor Bernardo Ferro, no dia 17 de junho pelas 9:20.

Este colóquio é um encontro científico de âmbito internacional dedicado à investigação filosófica de pós-graduação, reunindo investigadores de universidade de Portugal, Brasil, Espanha, Itália, Singapura, Dinamarca e Reino Unido.

[ENG] 1st International Postgraduate Colloquium in Philosophy

With the aim of fostering knowledge networks and exploring new avenues for philosophical research, the Institute for Philosophical Studies (IEF), with the support of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Coimbra (FLUC), is organizing a postgraduate colloquium on 17, 18 and 19 June. The event will take place in Amphitheatre III, on the 4th floor of FLUC.

The colloquium aims to create opportunities for knowledge sharing and to foster dialogue among researchers from fields as diverse as Ethics, Political Philosophy, Aesthetics and the Philosophy of Education.

We would like to highlight the opening lectures by renowned experts who will launch the discussion sessions in each area:
• Political Philosophy: Prof. Giovanni Damele, on 17 June at 2.30 pm;
• Aesthetics: Prof. Vítor Moura, on 18 June at 9.00 am;
• Philosophy of Education: Prof. Maria José Figueiroa-Rego, 18 June at 2.30 pm;
• Ethics: Prof. Fernanda Bernardo, 19 June at 9.00 am.

These lectures will be followed by presentations of individual projects by early-career researchers.

Other philosophical issues will also be addressed, such as the relationship between body and soul, the philosophy of mind, and the present-day issue of the digital world.

The opening session, dedicated to the theme of democracy, will be led by Professor Bernardo Ferro on 17 June at 9.20 am.

This colloquium is an international scientific conference dedicated to postgraduate philosophical research, bringing together researchers from universities in Portugal, Brazil, Spain, Italy, Singapore, Denmark and the United Kingdom.

[PT] IEF nos Media – Texto Aberto, Série 3, n.º 3

O Instituto de Estudos Filosóficos (IEF) partilha o novo artigo de opinião de João Emanuel Diogo no jornal PÚBLICO: "Por uma sociedade cuidadora", adaptando para o grande público as reflexões publicadas no Texto Aberto "Equidade, a perspectiva da ética do cuidado e da hospitalidade", disponível na coleção Texto Aberto do IEF.

O autor argumenta que a verdadeira justiça nasce do cuidado concreto e que a equidade não é uma concessão dos privilegiados, mas sim o reconhecimento de que todos somos constituídos e sustentados pelo Outro.

[ENG] IEF in the Media – Texto Aberto, Series 3, no. 3

The Institute for Philosophical Studies (IEF) shares the latest opinion piece by João Emanuel Diogo in the newspaper PÚBLICO: "Por uma sociedade cuidadora" (For a caring society), adapting for the general public the reflections published in the Texto Aberto "Equity, the perspective of the ethics of care and hospitality", available in the IEF's Texto Aberto collection.

The author argues that true justice stems from concrete care and that equity is not a concession from the privileged, but rather the acknowledgment that we are all shaped and sustained by the Other.

[PT] O Instituto de Estudos Filosóficos (IEF) da Faculdade de Letras da Universidade de Coimbra assinala a realização do encontro “Horizontes do Pensamento”, que decorreu nos dias 7 e 8 de maio de 2026, na FLUC.

Organizado por estudantes e para estudantes, o encontro reuniu comunicações e mesas-redondas dedicadas a diversos horizontes do pensamento.

O programa contou com a sessão plenária “A Filosofia não serve para nada”, apresentada por Mário Santiago de Carvalho (IEF), bem como com a mesa-redonda “Inteligência Artificial em Diálogo”, com Edmundo Balsemão Pires (CEIS) e Henrique Madeira (CISUC), sob moderação de Joaquim Braga (IEF). O encontro encerrou com a mesa-redonda “Polarização: Um diálogo sem moderação”, com Gonçalo Marcelo (CECH) e Alexandre Franco de Sá (CEIS).

[ENG] The Institute for Philosophical Studies (IEF) of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Coimbra marks the conclusion of the conference “Horizontes do Pensamento”, held on May 7 and 8, 2026, at FLUC.

Organised by students for students, the event brought together presentations and roundtables dedicated to diverse horizons of thought.

The programme featured the plenary session “A Filosofia não serve para nada”, delivered by Mário Santiago de Carvalho (IEF), as well as the roundtable “Artificial Intelligence in Dialogue”, with Edmundo Balsemão Pires (CEIS) and Henrique Madeira (CISUC), moderated by Joaquim Braga (IEF). The conference concluded with the roundtable “Polarization: A Dialogue Without Moderation”, featuring Gonçalo Marcelo (CECH) and Alexandre Franco de Sá (CEIS).

O Instituto de Estudos Filosóficos (IEF) da Universidade de Coimbra promove a sexta sessão dos Coimbra Seminars, intitulada “From Attention to Attensity and Curiosity”, com a participação de Yves Citton, no dia 19 de maio de 2026, às 14h30, na Faculdade de Letras da Universidade de Coimbra, Sala Vítor de Matos.

Os debates públicos sobre uma «crise de atenção» são importantes, mas também enganadores. Eles tendem a reduzir a pluralidade dos nossos modos de atenção a uma oposição maniqueísta entre concentração e distração. Esta palestra discutirá a noção de «atenção», promovida pelo recente Manifesto do Movimento de Libertação da Atenção, e apelará a uma reformulação das questões relacionadas com a atenção dentro da noção mais precisa de «curiosidade».

Yves Citton é professor de Literatura e Comunicação Social na Universidade Paris 8 Vincennes-Saint Denis, membro do Institut Universitaire de France e coeditor da revista Multitudes. Publicou recentemente A maquina de fazer ganhar as direitas (Almedina, 2026), Mythocracy. How Stories Shape Our Worlds (Verso, 2025), Mediarchy (Polity Press, 2019), The Ecology of Attention (Polity Press, 2016) e co-dirigiu com Enrico Campo o volume Politics of Curiosity. The Institute for Philosophical Studies (IEF) of the University of Coimbra is promoting the sixth session of the Coimbra Seminars, entitled “From Attention to Attensity and Curiosity”, featuring Yves Citton, on May 19, 2026, at 2:30 p.m., at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Coimbra, Vítor de Matos Room.

Public debates about an “attention crisis” are important, but also misleading. They tend to reduce the plurality of our modes of attention to a Manichean opposition between concentration and distraction. This lecture will discuss the notion of “attensity”, promoted by the recent Manifesto of the Attention Liberation Movement, and will call for a reformulation of issues related to attention within the more precise notion of “curiosity”.

Yves Citton is Professor of Literature and Media Studies at Université Paris 8 Vincennes-Saint Denis, member of the Institut Universitaire de France, and co-editor of the journal Multitudes. [PT] O Instituto de Estudos Filosóficos (IEF) da Faculdade de Letras da Universidade de Coimbra promoveu, nos dias 23 e 26 de março e 16 de abril de 2026, três sessões dedicadas ao tema da atenção, integradas na sua programação científica.

No dia 23 de março, realizou-se a sessão “An Implicit Philosophy of Attention in the Historicist Hermeneutics of Apocalyptic Thought: The Reformed Zurich of the Sixteenth Century as a Case Study”, apresentada por Mario Lupoli, em formato on-line. A intervenção incidiu sobre o surgimento de uma filosofia implícita da atenção no contexto da hermenêutica historicista do pensamento apocalíptico na Zurique reformada do século XVI.

A 26 de março teve lugar a conferência “The Case for Collective Attention”, apresentada por Carolyn Dicey Jennings, na Faculdade de Letras da Universidade de Coimbra. A sessão abordou o conceito de atenção coletiva a partir de uma perspetiva emergentista sobre o controlo mental e a articulação entre interesses individuais e coletivos.

No dia 16 de abril, decorreu a sessão “Agostinho, uma teologia unitária da atenção”, apresentada por Mário Santiago de Carvalho, na FLUC, no âmbito do ciclo Coimbra Seminars. A apresentação explorou a evolução da doutrina da atenção nas principais obras de Agostinho, destacando as suas dimensões histórico-filosóficas.

[ENG] The Institute for Philosophical Studies (IEF) of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Coimbra held, on March 23 and 26 and April 16, 2026, three sessions dedicated to the theme of attention, as part of its scientific programme.

On March 23, the session “An Implicit Philosophy of Attention in the Historicist Hermeneutics of Apocalyptic Thought: The Reformed Zurich of the Sixteenth Century as a Case Study” was presented by Mario Lupoli, in an online format, focusing on the emergence of an implicit philosophy of attention within Reformed apocalyptic hermeneutics.

On March 26, the lecture “The Case for Collective Attention” was delivered by Carolyn Dicey Jennings, at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Coimbra, addressing the concept of collective attention from an emergentist perspective.

On April 16, the session “Agostinho, uma teologia unitária da atenção”, presented by Mário Santiago de Carvalho, took place at FLUC, within the Coimbra Seminars cycle, examining the development of Augustine’s doctrine of attention.
