Today the new coordination committee for the Latin American and Caribbean Geoparks Network was elected! A new chapter begins, respecting the guidelines to foster a stronger and more integrated network with the Global Geoparks Network.

Gathering of the representatives of the Global Geoparks Network at the entrance of the Gernan Parliament
We are ready to participate in a formal parlamentary meeting to present the UNESCO Global Geoparks as tools for the sustainable local development!

GEOPARKS were presented at the GERMAN PARLIAMENT!

The Global Geoparks Network as well as the representatives of UNESCO Global Geoparks from Germany and Europe participating in ITB 2026 were invited, by the German Global Geoparks Network in a meeting in the German Parliament to present UNESCO Global Geoparks operation and activities as tool for geotourism and local development.
The Meeting was organized by MP Christoph Schmid (SPD), Member of the WG on Tourism, and participated MPs from all the German Democratic Parties.
The Global Geoparks Network was represented by Prof. Artur Sá, President, and Prof. Nickolas Zouros, Secretary- General, who presented the importance of Geoparks for the local communities and the activities of the Global Geoparks Network to support geotourism and local development. Dr. Jutta Weber, Speaker of the .German Global Geoparks Network, made the main presentation followed by discussion among the participants.
It was a unique opportunity for the first time to have very constructive discussions on UNESCO Global Geoparks with all the main parties represented in the German Parliament.
It was a very successful meeting that raised the profile of the Geoparks among the German policy makers.

Today, another doctoral thesis defense was held under the auspices of this Chair, bringing the total to 8 successful doctoral graduates in innovative topics related to management and local development in UNESCO Global Geoparks! Congratulations!

Hoje, realizou-se mais uma defesa de tese de doutoramento sob os auspícios desta Cátedra, elevando o total para 8 doutores formados com sucesso em temas inovadores relacionados com a gestão e o desenvolvimento local em Geoparques Globais da UNESCO! ​​Parabéns!

Today the established UNESCO Chairs on Geoparks participate in a high profile online meeting with the UNESCO DG: " The Global Network of UNESCO Chairs and UNESCO 80: Dialogue with the Director-General of UNESCO, Professor Khaled El-Enany ".
The UNESCO Global Geoparks as are gaining visibility and impact in the future activities in Education Section through the work and activities of the UNESCO Unesco Chair on Geoparks, Sustainable Development and Healthy Lifestyles - University of Tras-Os-Montes e Alto Duro - Prof Artur Sa, Portugal and the UNESCO Chair on Geoparks and the Sustainable Development of insular and coastal areas - University of the Aegean - Prof. Nickolas Zouros, Greece.
