This year marks our fourth year of participation in the ARS Electronica Campus Exhibition. Over the years, the Festival has served as both a source of inspiration and learning for our students. Chase Westfall, Head of Gallery, and Meriem Aiouna, Associate Curator of Special Projects, discuss the value of participating in international platforms like the Ars Electronica Festival, and how bringing creative research to global stages opens new possibilities for discourse and inspiration.

Alternative Frequencies, the VCUarts Qatar installation at the ARS Electronica Campus Exhibition, will open on September 9.

Join us at the VCUarts Qatar Gallery for the opening of How to Become a Rock by Fazal Rizvi. Emerging from research in the Karakoram mountains of Pakistan, the exhibition invites us to reflect on the relationship between our bodies and the ancient, tectonic landscapes that shape our world.

First commissioned for Lahore Biennale in 2024, How to Become a Rock brings together typewritten drawings and texts, video, projection, sound, and sculptural installation to explore stillness, materiality, memory, and the possibility of becoming closer to the earth by slowing down.

We invite you to join us for the opening event, which will include a lecture and reception. The exhibition itself will remain open until October 8.

Alternative Frequencies brings together four experimental projects examining how meaning, perception, and communication translate across media.

Bloom is a digitally fabricated mechanical sculpture that accelerates and elaborates the natural rhythms of blooming flowers.

Chromesthesia re-encodes visual information into sound, inviting visitors to "hear" color through an immersive, interactive system.

Corporeal Resonance transforms the human body into both instrument and interface. Using a gesture-based synthesizer, the project converts physical movement directly into digital sound, bridging bodily expression and electronic music composition.

Ephemeral Sounds of the Gulf reimagines the sonic and temporal profile of traditional vinyl records using innovative biomaterials, introducing new tonal possibilities while reducing ecological impact.

Join us at the University of Arts Linz from September 9–13 to explore Alternative Frequencies at Ars Electronica.
