The discussion emphasized the importance of the gut-liver axis, microbiome-based therapies, and the growing role of AI in supporting clinical decision-making, diagnostics, and research.

As healthcare continues to evolve, integrating innovative technologies with microbiome science may help unlock more personalized and effective approaches to patient care. While promising, further research and clinical validation remain essential.

Congratulations to Dr. Lotfi Chouchane and his team on the inclusion of CDC1011, a novel small-molecule UCP1 activator, in the Weill Cornell Medicine technology portfolio. CDC1011 was identified through a proprietary high-throughput screening platform and shows promise as a next-generation approach to obesity and metabolic disease management by promoting healthy adipocyte function and reducing inflammation.

This milestone reflects the growing impact of translational research at WCM-Q and the power of innovation to advance discoveries from the laboratory toward real-world patient benefit.

We also congratulate the team on securing a QRDI Road to BioPharma grant for their innovative AdipoQSwitch Platform, further accelerating efforts to identify selective agonists of healthy human adipocytes.

A comprehensive systematic review and meta-analysis by the Infectious Disease Epidemiology Group examined the epidemiology of Chlamydia trachomatis in Canada & analyzed data spanning more than four decades (1981–2025), providing important insights into infection prevalence, risk patterns, and public health implications. The findings highlight the continued burden of chlamydia and reinforce the need for strengthened screening, prevention strategies, and investment in vaccine development.

A new study by our Infectious Disease Epidemiology Group in collaboration with the Biolab Diagnostic Laboratories in Jordan, provides one of the first comprehensive assessments of the epidemiology of Neisseria gonorrhoeae (gonorrhea) in Jordan using a national laboratory dataset spanning 2014 to 2025.

Analyzing data from 8,779 individuals, the study found a low overall prevalence and incidence of gonorrhea in Jordan. However, higher positivity rates among individuals tested for clinical reasons, coupled with no evidence of a temporal decline in infections, suggest ongoing transmission that warrants continued public health attention.

The findings underscore the importance of strengthening surveillance systems, expanding targeted testing and treatment strategies, and incorporating antimicrobial resistance monitoring to better inform prevention and control efforts.

In this new editorial, the Infectious Disease Epidemiology Group (IDEG) demonstrates how stratified self-controlled case series (SCCS) analyses can provide deeper insight into vaccine safety by examining shorter risk windows, stroke subtypes, and vaccine dose number.
πŸ”¬ A reanalysis of stroke following COVID-19 mRNA vaccination in Qatar found that the overall signal was concentrated in the first week after vaccination and was largely driven by the first vaccine dose.
Importantly, these findings do not establish causality. Rather, they illustrate how refined SCCS analyses can uncover nuanced, hypothesis-generating patterns that may be missed by conventional aggregate approaches.
