What does it mean to be in your “odyssey age”?

For Yuzhang Koh (Regina), it meant saying yes to new countries, new cultures, and the challenge of starting from scratch.

Through the Master of Science (MSc) CEMS Master’s in International Management (MIM) programme, she gained cross-border experience and deep insights into the beauty, fashion, and luxury industry, including a Business Project at ESADE with Beiersdorf Spain, where she worked on NIVEA’s TikTok Shop reactivation strategy in Europe.

Her journey reminded her that growth often begins when we step into the unfamiliar.

If you’re in your own odyssey age, perhaps this is your sign to set sail.

🎓 A degree may open doors, but what carries you through the next decade?

In this episode of Faculty Fridays, alumnus Huy Bui (Bachelor of Business Administration, Class of 2016) shares how his experience at NUS Business School continues to shape the way he approaches problem-solving, leadership, and ambiguity in his career today.

From developing transferable skills to building a regional network that still matters years later, the conversation explores the lasting impact of business education beyond graduation.

Most people choose the safest next step. Bachelor of Business Administration graduate, Daniel Lim chose the most impactful one.

After starting his career at Goldman Sachs, one of the world’s leading investment banking and financial services firms, Daniel decided to take a different path, entrepreneurship.

He went on to co-found Growtrics, an AI-powered education platform that rethinks how students learn through personalised assessments, AI-generated lessons, and interactive tutoring.

What began as an idea between two co-founders has grown into a 20-strong team, expanding from Singapore into global markets.

Building in AI isn’t easy, the landscape changes fast, and the challenges are constant. For Daniel, it’s about staying focused on real problems, adapting quickly, and having the conviction to keep going, even when the path isn’t clear.

His biggest lesson: progress isn’t about avoiding setbacks, but learning how to move through them.

What does meaningful work really look like?

For a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) graduate, Florence Leong, the answers didn’t come all at once. It came through years of questioning, reflection, and rethinking the way problems are approached, from health and sustainability to the role everyday habits play.

Her journey is a reminder that careers are rarely linear, and that some of the most meaningful work begins by asking difficult questions.

Today, some of that thinking can also be experienced through W0W® ProTEGO™ noodles, which is now available at The Spread.

Growth isn’t always about doing more. Sometimes, it begins with seeing things differently.

After years in business, Helen Chen realised that experience alone was no longer enough. She wanted to step back, rethink her approach, and gain a broader perspective on leadership and global strategy. Through the UCLA - NUS Executive MBA, she began shifting from problem-solving to opportunity framing, connecting ideas across disciplines and reimagining how she builds.

Today, as the founder of iRetailer, an RFID-driven platform that turns inventory into real-time data, Helen is focused on scalability, platforms, and long-term impact.

“Thinking bigger is the first step. Acting on it is what creates impact.”

Congratulations to our NUS Business School students (fielded by the NUS Case Consulting Group) for placing 2nd Runner-Up at the Sauder Summit Global Case Competition 2026 in Vancouver, Canada.

Hosted by the University of British Columbia, the competition brought together 16 teams from top schools across APAC, Europe and the Americas. Over two 4-hour cases and one 24-hour case, the team tackled complex business problems, adapted quickly, and presented their recommendations under pressure.

What made this year’s competition especially distinctive was the nature of the case organisations, including non-profits such as the Rick Hansen Foundation and Vancouver Coastal Health. This required the team to think beyond conventional business solutions and develop recommendations grounded in stakeholder needs, accessibility, inclusivity and long-term impact.

After entering the finals as the only wildcard team, the NUS Business School team regrouped and delivered a strong comeback to finish as second Runner-Up.

“Being a mother doesn’t mean we stop growing.”

For Master of Science in Sustainability and Finance student, May Thet Kyin, returning to school after more than 20 years in finance has meant stepping into a very different learning environment, one shaped by AI, new tools, and new ways of thinking.

But this experience has also reminded her that growth requires humility. After years in decision-making roles, she had to return to a learning mindset, while bringing her own professional experience in credit risk, lending, and corporate governance into the classroom.

This Mother’s Day, we celebrate May’s journey, and mothers who keep growing not only for themselves, but for the futures they hope to build with their children.

Happy Mother’s Day.

For Meryn Kim, becoming a mother changed the way she thought about career, growth, and the future she wanted to help shape.

After 13 years in banking, Meryn is now pursuing her MSc in Sustainable and Green Finance at NUS Business School, building on a strong professional foundation while shaping a more future-focused path.

Her journey reflects a different kind of ambition: one rooted in purpose, growth, and long-term vision, while making space for family in this season of life.

This Mother’s Day, we celebrate Meryn and all mothers whose ambition continues to evolve with clarity, courage, and purpose.

Happy Mother’s Day!

🎉 Congratulations to our NUS Business School students, fielded by the NUS Case Consulting Group (CCG), for placing First Runner-Up at the John Molson Undergraduate Case Competition (JMUCC) 2026 in Montreal, Canada.

Special congratulations to Darren Thng for receiving the Best Speaker award.

Behind this achievement was months of preparation, intense rounds of case analysis and presentation, and the resilience to keep performing under pressure. Between the divisional and final rounds, the team had been awake for roughly 30 hours as they worked on the final case and presented to multiple judging panels.

Their performance reflected not only strong business thinking, but also teamwork, adaptability and clear communication on the global stage.

Can you grow a business and grow yourself at the same time? At NUS Business School, the answer is yes.

For NUS Master of Business Administration student Gracellyne Hidayat, what began as a university project, Handduk By Today, evolved into a self-funded brand, even as she took on the challenges of an MBA.

“The programme helped me become more structured in how I think and lead, and I could apply it directly to my business.”

Here are 3 key insights from her journey:
• She moved from relying on experience alone to using structured frameworks for better decision-making
• She experienced highly practical learning that could be applied immediately to real business challenges
• She discovered that effective leadership means adapting to different people and working styles

The NUS MBA goes beyond theory, helping students grow as leaders while making real impact.

Moving halfway across the world to study is never just about academics.

For Eleonora Crocetti, a Master of Science in Finance student from Italy, coming to Singapore meant adapting to a new environment, a new culture, and a completely different way of life. While the programme was rigorous and fast-paced, it was also deeply collaborative, and shaped by classmates from diverse backgrounds who brought different perspectives to every discussion.

Some of the most meaningful moments happened outside the classroom, from navigating everyday life in a new country to building friendships in unexpected ways.
In the end, the experience was not only about gaining knowledge, but also about growing in perspective, adaptability, and connection.

Top 3 for Best Use of Trendjacking 🥉🏁

NUS Business School is honoured to be recognised at the Marketing-Interactive Asia Pacific 2026.

When the Singapore F1 Night Race hit the global spotlight, timely academic insights raced into the conversation too; first through CNBC, then across regional media.

🌍 This Earth Day, we spotlight a student turning ideas into climate action.
“Pressure is a privilege.” 💪
This belief has guided NUS Business School’s final-year BBA student Raphael Chew through every step of his entrepreneurial journey.

🌙 From late-night ideas to real-world impact
What started as brainstorming sessions at N-House (under NUS Enterprise) grew into Ecovolt, a startup Raphael co-founded with fellow innovators Eugene Chia and Glenn Quah from NUS Computing and Joseph Ho from the College of Design and Engineering.

Their mission? 🌍 Reimagining how buildings are operated and managed, for a smarter and more sustainable future.

🏆 Turning vision into action
After emerging as NUS Grand Champions at the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals Competition 2024, the team took their idea to market. Today, Ecovolt is piloting its IoT and AI-native building management platform with property partners in Singapore and beyond; helping buildings decarbonise, optimise energy use, and boost efficiency.

💬 “Buildings account for over a quarter of global greenhouse gas emissions,” Raphael says. “We wanted to make sustainability accessible to every operations team, not just those with big budgets.”

📚 Where business meets innovation
At NUS Business School, courses like Pricing Strategy, Family Business & Wealth Management, and Entrepreneurial Finance fuelled Raphael’s startup journey, sharpening both the strategist and builder in him.

⚡ A challenge and a privilege
For Raphael, a 2025 Philip Yeo Initiative Fellow, entrepreneurship is more than a career path, it’s a chance to build a greener world, one idea at a time. 🌱✨

Reading week often begins with the intention to catch up on everything.
But many students later realise it’s not about doing more, it’s about focusing on what truly matters.

If you’re just starting the week, there’s still time to reset your approach.
Start small, prioritise what counts, and commit to doing it well.

Wishing all our students clarity, focus, and steady momentum in the days ahead.
