You are invited to the upcoming What’s Up Wednesday (WUW) Alumni Speaker Series happening on 21 June 2023.

The theme for the next WUW is competitive sports, titled “Pushing Limits: The Champion Mindset”. The two alumni speakers are Mr Kevin Goh (NBS/2007) and Mr Sim Kai Xiong (SSM/2022). Dr Cheryl Tay (SSM/2013, NIE/2018) will be the moderator.

To celebrate the legacy of the late Mr E.W. Barker and his contributions to the local sporting scene, PESS will be hosting our next 11th E.W. Barker Visiting Professor, Professor Cliff Mallett from the School of Human Movement and Nutrition Sciences, University of Queensland, Australia from 10 to 21 October 2022. Professor Mallett’s research domains are in the area of sport psychology and coaching. We have the privilege to invite him to share his expertise in these public lectures as follows:

Happy New Year! The Queen’s Baton Relay (QBR) is a relay event held in 72 countries prior to the Commonwealth Games, which will be in Birmingham in the UK later this year. The QBR will be passing through Singapore next week. The University of Birmingham is a sponsor and an official partner of the QBR. They are hosting a webinar with PESS whilst the QBR is in Singapore on ‘Applied Research to Improve Sports Performance’. This event will be held on 17th January from 4.30 pm – 7.00 pm SG time and feature speakers from the University of Birmingham, PESS, the Singapore Sport Institute and the National Youth Sports Institute. Dear PESS & SSM Alumni Members,

You are cordially invited to the 10th Lau Teng Chuan (LTC) PESS Virtual Symposium. In recognition of the late Dr. Lau Teng Chuan’s contribution to Singapore and to NIE, Physical Education and Sports Science (PESS) Academic Group has organised the annual Symposium since 2013. This Symposium showcases Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and NIE students’ educational and research achievements. In addition, students from universities who have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with NTU will share their research findings.

The 10th LTC PESS Virtual Symposium is scheduled on Fri, 5 November 2021, from 9.00am to 1.00pm (Singapore time). The theme of this year’s Symposium is “Envisioning Physical Education, Sport Science and Management.” As part of our programme, we have the pleasure to invite Mr Eric Chua, Parlimentary Secretary of Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth as our Guest-of-Honour, Mr Lau Cheng Soon, son of the late Dr Lau Teng Chuan and Associate Professor Liu Woon Chia, Dean of Teacher Education, National Institute of Education Singapore to give us an address.

In addition, there will also be two guest speakers, Mr Lim Teck Yin (CEO, Sport Singapore) and Professor Aaron Russell (Deakin University), to share with us on their expertise from 9:30am to 10:30 am.

The students from the universities who have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with NTU were also invited, and there will be a total of 105 student presentations [NTU-Sport Science & Management (70), NTU-PESS (8), Deakin University (9), Korea National Sport University (7), and National Taiwan Normal University (11)]. All students were divided into different sessions based on the topics of the research projects.
We have 9 sessions: (1) Biomechanics, (2) Management, (3) Motor Control, (4) Physical Activity & Health, (5) Pedagogy & Sociology, (6) Physiology & Exercise Science, (7) Sport Psychology (Athlete), (8) Sport Psychology (Coaching), and (9) Strength and Conditioning & Sport Injuries. The students’ presentation will start from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm (two hours).
