What can one small step lead to? ✨ For Desmond, it started with a curiosity about technology. From learning Microsoft Excel during the pandemic to building websites, participating in hackathons and leading initiatives through the SIM IT Club, each experience gave him the confidence to keep learning and take on new challenges.

As a SIM Award recipient, supported by the SIM Impact Fund, Desmond is continuing to pursue his passion for technology while giving back to the student community. Looking ahead, he hopes to specialise in Web3 and Artificial Intelligence and make emerging technologies more accessible to others.

🌍 What does it take to stay adaptable in a world shaped by rapid change, AI and data? On 7 September, we had the privilege of exploring these questions with Professor Larry Kramer, President and Vice-Chancellor of The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), and Dr James Abdey, Associate Academic Director, LSE Global Programmes.

Professor Kramer’s visit marked his second visit to Singapore since 2024. He was joined by a distinguished LSE delegation including Professor Emma McCoy, Vice-President and Pro Vice-Chancellor (Education), and Dr Brendan Smith, Executive Director, LSE in East Asia.

We were also pleased to celebrate the achievements of Ng Jing Heng, a First-Class Honours graduate of the UOL BSc (Hons) in Data Science and Business Analytics and UOL-SIM Regional Centre Master’s Scholarship recipient. A national middle-distance runner representing Singapore in the 1500m. He will be pursuing an MSc in Health Data Science at UCL, with the scholarship covering £30,000 of his tuition fees.

A huge thank you to everyone who came down last Saturday to explore programmes and pathways with SIM! ✨

It was especially fun to see the atrium buzzing, campus tours in full swing, the smiles and the vibes 🥤 Throughout the day, prospective students and their families sat in on programme briefings, engaged in Q&A sessions with our university partners, and explored the campus through guided tours led by our Student Ambassadors.

It was heartening to see so many meaningful conversations taking place as visitors learned more about the opportunities available at SIM.

Here's hoping to see you back on campus — next time, maybe as a SIM student! 🎓

What do you do when there is no single right answer, people do not agree on the purpose, and the consequences of today’s decisions may only become visible much later?

These were some of the questions explored during a guest session with Dr Yeuk Fan Ng as part of the Critical Perspectives on Leadership module delivered at SIM in partnership with the University of Birmingham last week.

Drawing on his extensive experience in public health and health-system transformation, Dr Ng invited students to think beyond leadership styles and toolkits. He highlighted the importance of context, different perspectives, judgement and the ability to work with uncertainty.

A particularly valuable part of the discussion focused on facilitation: knowing when to create space for different views, tensions and disagreements, and when there is enough shared understanding for a group to move forward. Dr Ng also reflected on the challenge of holding different time horizons at once - responding to what is urgent today while remaining attentive to the longer-term consequences of decisions.

Students brought questions about AI, the future of entry-level work, disagreement and purpose. Dr Ng encouraged them to keep developing judgement, seek feedback, question their assumptions, understand the limits of what they know, and strengthen the human capabilities needed to work well with increasingly powerful technologies.

His closing reflections on love and justice as principles for leadership gave the class a particularly thought-provoking way to end the conversation.

Thank you, Dr Yeuk Fan Ng, for sharing your experience so generously and for engaging so openly with our students.

40 years of Partnership. Generations of Impact. One Global Community. 🌏

On 20 August, we celebrated 40th anniversary of the SIM–University of London (SIM-UOL) partnership, with a special celebratory dinner in Jakarta, reconnecting with our valued SIM-UOL alumni, educators and partners in Indonesia. 🎉

More than a celebration of the past, the evening recognised what four decades of partnership have made possible, graduates who have built careers, led organisations, crossed borders and contributed to their communities.

Through the panel discussion: “Leading Across Borders in the Age of AI”, our alumni shared how professionals can continue to adapt, lead and thrive in an increasingly interconnected world and with the evolvement of AI.

From Singapore to Jakarta, SIM-UOL alumni community continues to grow stronger across borders. Here's to the next chapter of learning, leading, and thriving together. ✨

What better way to close a chapter than to celebrate the journey, honour the milestones, and look forward to what lies ahead? 🎊

More than just an event, the SIM-RMIT University Degree Conferment and Awards Ceremony 2026 marked a significant occasion in the lives of our graduates — a moment to recognise their accomplishments, perseverance, and the many steps that brought them here.

The ceremony was also graced by the presence of Her Excellency Ms Robyn Mudie, Australian High Commissioner to Singapore, who joined us as our Guest of Honour.

To the Class of 2025, congratulations on this remarkable achievement. May this milestone mark the beginning of many more opportunities, meaningful experiences, and achievements in the journey ahead. 🎓✨

Nobody really hands you the “how to survive university” manual… so here’s ours 😭📚

The small things end up mattering the most: the people you meet, the habits you build, the classes you attend, and the campus spaces you make use of along the way ✨

Consider this your unofficial SIM starter guide from SIM-University of Birmingham student Harshna who has been through it all👀💚
