Inspired by Design for Good at Temasek Shophouse
Just off the bustling Orchard Road, Temasek Shophouse offers visitors a change in pace. Behind its conserved façade, shaded terraces, and green spaces; thoughtful areas are specially curated for positive impact: the social good and the environment. Every corner carefully carved out for tangible sustainability by design and serving the community. A big thank you to Ms Lee Mun Ling and her team for the warm welcome and for sharing insights on how heritage spaces can be meaningfully conserved and enhanced for the community.
💬 “Today’s talks were inspiring because it is about conserving the existing, improving spaces with design and integrating history in meaningful ways for community.”
— Su Myat Yati, DLA student
💬 “Understanding the existing site conditions is key to creating impactful landscape design… from transforming a deck over a canal into an amphitheatre, to integrating solar panels into landscape elements.”
— Muhammad Sufi Bin Emmy Effandy, DLA student
Mr Bern Michael Schernau from Henning Larsen gave an insightful talk about the design of landscape architectural spaces where plants, passive cooling, reused materials, and welcoming gathering spaces come together. It is indeed a marvellous living example of heritage, biodiversity, and climate-responsive design in action. More than just a site visit, this learning journey allowed students to see how ideas come to life—demonstrating how design can shape meaningful, sustainable communities. A truly inspiring example of how design, heritage and sustainability can come together to create positive impact.

Classrooms, Competitions & Commitment: A Day in the Life of an ABE Student-Athlete! 🎓🏃‍♀️

At the School of Architecture & the Built Environment (ABE), we pride ourselves on nurturing well-rounded individuals who excel both in the studio and on the field.

Check out this fantastic video by our DEPM student agency, taking us behind the scenes with Cherie, a recent Diploma in Integrated Events & Project Management (DEPM) graduand! 🌟

As a Year 3 student and a dedicated Touch Football athlete, Cherie shows us exactly what it takes to balance rigorous coursework, event planning projects, and intense sports training. Her journey is a stellar example of the grit, time-management, and passion that define our ABE community. 💪🔥

Students from SP developed a practical invention called “Gap Stop” to help commuters stay dry when boarding buses during rainy weather. The project was showcased at the SouthWest Community InnoLab Symposium held at Singapore University of Technology and Design, where more than 100 students from nine institutes of higher learning presented ideas to solve everyday community problems.

The SP team from the School of Architecture and the Built Environment noticed that there is often an uncovered gap between buses and bus stops. This can be inconvenient and unsafe, especially for elderly commuters or people using mobility aids during the rain.

Led by lecturer Ms Toh Sok Na, the team, namely ANG EE JIN from the Diploma in Architecture, ANG PEI SHUEN JASMINE from the Diploma in Landscape Architecture, as well as KAUNG MIN THANT from the Diploma in Architecture, spent five months developing an adjustable bus stop shelter extension using 3D-printing technology. The prototype can be attached to existing bus stops and extend up to 50cm forward to cover the gap between the bus and the shelter, without requiring manual operation.

Congratulation for the job well done.

SP Pride at the Istana Open House! 🇸🇬🏛️

Did you know our students were right at the heart of the recent Istana Open House? It was an incredible day of service, culture, and leadership!

Our Diploma in Integrated Events & Project Management (DEPM) students were the backbone of the on-ground operations—managing activity stations, guiding the public through scavenger hunts, and ensuring everything ran like clockwork. ⚙️📋

The atmosphere was made even more vibrant by our talented student groups:
🎤 SP Malay Language Society (Dikir Barat)
💃 Malay Cultural Dance Group
🎻 Indian Cultural Society

A major highlight of the day? Our SP Malay Language Society had the distinct honor of performing for President Tharman Shanmugaratnam! 🌟

We are incredibly proud to see our students representing SP so well and contributing meaningfully to such a significant national event.
