The Buddhist and Pali College of Singapore was founded in Singapore in 1993. It was established to fulfil the need for the learning of Buddhism in allies various facets, in Singapore and the region. It was also formed to provide the opportunity for Buddhists to expand and enhance the knowledge of their own religion. The College is also open to all interested members of our modern multi-racial, mul

ti-cultural and multi-religious society, enabling them to discover the rich heritage and profound wisdom of one of the world’s most ancient and important philosophies and teachings. The Buddhist and Pali College of Singapore is located within the premises of the Mangala Vihara Buddhist Temple and is run by the Management Committee of the Temple. It is affiliated to the Buddhist and Pali University of Sri Lanka which was founded in 1982, to provide Buddhist education programmes for monks, nuns and laity. Its objectives include the propagation of Buddhism, the promotion of Buddhist and Pali studies in Sri Lanka and abroad, and the provision of research facilities for the various fields of Buddhist studies. Its degrees are internationally recognised and it is also a member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities. Mahaweera Maha Nayaka Thero was instrumental in founding the Buddhist and Pali College of Singapore in 1993 and the late Venerable P. Gnanarama Maha Thera has been the principal since then. Venerable P. Seelananda is the current principal. The programmes available at the College range from a basic Introduction to Buddhism course, to Diploma, Bachelor’s, Master’s and PhD. degrees. The College thus provides a comprehensive and in-depth knowledge in Buddhism suitable for the educational needs of all sectors of society, from the young to the matured individuals. The courses are conducted in English and all examinations are held in Singapore by the Buddhist and Pali University of Sri Lanka. Each course furnishes an essential foundation and springboard for aspiring teachers and speakers of Buddhism, imparting a greater awareness of its academic aspects. The programmes also complement the knowledge of serious Buddhist practitioners, providing a deeper understanding of the Buddha’s teachings. The participants of the various courses can expect to receive a well-rounded, broad and thorough education in Buddhism. All the programmes are conducted by a pool of qualified and experienced lecturers and tutors within a structured and friendly environment.

✨ 6 Days in Central Vietnam: A Journey of Connection & Discovery ✨
From the ancient ruins of the Myson Sanctuary to the lantern-lit streets of Hoi An, our 6-day bonding trip (May 2–7, 2026) was an unforgettable spiritual pilgrimage. Guided by the presence of Ven. Aparekke Sirisumana Thero and Rev. Mahiyanganaye Suneetha Thero, we explored the heart of Vietnam’s rich heritage.
Highlights of our journey:
🏛️ Ancient History: We walked through the echoes of the Champa Kingdom at Myson and explored the majestic Hue Imperial City, once the exclusive home of emperors.
🙏 Sacred Moments: We experienced the unique Theravada architecture of Thien Lam Pagoda and participated in a moving Alms Giving ceremony for monks and nuns at the tranquil Huyen Khong Son Thuong Pagoda, hidden deep in the forest hills.
🌊 Spiritual Icons: We stood in awe of the 67-meter Lady Buddha at Linh Ung Pagoda and visited Tu Hieu Pagoda, the peaceful novice home of Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh.
🏮 Living Traditions: From the iconic Japanese Covered Bridge to the vibrant Assembly Halls, we soaked in the culture of Hoi An before concluding our trip with a magical boat ride on the Thu Bon River.
This trip was defined by more than just sights; it was a beautiful tapestry of spiritual connection and shared appreciation for Vietnam's soul 🇻🇳🙏✨

On 3 May, 55 students from the English and Chinese Diploma classes of the Buddhist and Pali College of Singapore (BPC), accompanied by 2 teachers and 2 members of the BPC Alumni Committee, participated in a meaningful temple learning journey.

This temple tour is part of a new initiative to introduce Experiential Learning into the curriculum. The visit was organised under the Geographical Expansion of Buddhism subject, allowing students to deepen their learning through direct observation and engagement beyond the classroom setting.

The group visited Palelai Buddhist Temple and Wat Ananda Metyarama, where they gained a deeper understanding of Thai Buddhism and how Thai Buddhist traditions have been culturally adapted in Singapore.

Through the visits, students had the opportunity to observe, listen, and reflect on the unique practices, architecture, community culture, and spiritual atmosphere of both temples. The experience enriched their appreciation of Buddhist traditions and provided valuable real-world learning experiences.

The visit concluded with a blessing session by Bhante Seelananda, Principal of BPC, who offered words of encouragement and blessings to all participants.

Sabbe dhammā anattā’ti
“All phenomena are not-self.”

We naturally identify with our body, thoughts, emotions, achievements, and even our spiritual progress. Yet all of these arise due to causes and conditions, change moment by moment, and eventually pass away.

Seeing this is not meant to create fear or indifference. Instead, it loosens the grip of attachment.

When we stop insisting, “This is me. This is mine. This is myself,” the heart becomes lighter, more peaceful, and more compassionate.

The Buddha concludes this verse by saying:

“This is the path to purification.”

May today’s practice be simply to observe experience as it is—arising, changing, and passing away—without clinging.
