💡Re-engineering treatment at the microscale: scientists have developed microscopic peptide droplets 💧 that could offer a potentially cheaper approach to treating .

The microdroplets can deliver large amounts of gene-silencing molecules directly into cancer and immune cells, reducing the growth of hard-to-treat colorectal by about 67% in mice.

Published in the journal Biomaterials, the unique approach disrupts the production of two proteins that cancer cells exploit to evade attacks by the immune system. By reducing the amount of these proteins, the treatment minimises their interaction and prevents the resulting signals from telling immune cells to hold back their attack.

🏥 Driving the future of rehabilitation 💪

warmly welcomes the inaugural cohort of our Graduate Certificate in Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Health (Rehability) learners. This certificate is a stackable postgraduate pathway designed to equip practising physiotherapists with competencies in physiotherapy assessment, clinical management and professional practice across acute, rehabilitation and community care settings.

In collaboration with NHG Health, Lien Foundation, Asian Women’s Welfare Association (AWWA) and SPD, the programme combines academic online learning with structured workplace-based learning, giving learners opportunities to translate knowledge into practice.

The programme follows a flexible, stackable framework — from a Graduate Certificate to FlexiMasters and ultimately a Master of Science in Rehabilitation Health, allowing learners to upskill while balancing clinical responsibilities.

As the inaugural cohort embarks on this new chapter, we look forward to seeing our learners deepen their clinical capabilities, enhance collaboration within multidisciplinary healthcare teams, and contribute to advancing the standards of rehabilitation care in Singapore.

The people closest to a teaching challenge often understand it best. What if they could also build the technology to solve it?

The inaugural CREATE Hackathon is empowering educators to become technology creators—developing their own solutions to accelerate learning and improve teaching.

Co-organised by and NHG Health , with support from OpenAI, the hackathon brought together 250 clinicians, educators and administrators. Using AI coding tools, participants started to turn challenges from their own teaching and workplaces into practical solutions that they can test and refine.

The initiative is spearheaded by Asst Prof Chow Minyang, Asst Dean of the Office of AI-Enhanced Medical Education (AIME) at LKCMedicine and Lead, AI-eNabled Education (AINE) at NHG Health.

Assoc Prof Faith Chia Li-Ann, Vice-Dean (Education) at LKCMedicine and Cluster Education Director at NHG Health, emphasised that meaningful education innovation begins with the needs of educators and learners—not with the technology itself. She encouraged participants to focus on the teaching and learning challenges that matter most and to create solutions that empower educators to teach more effectively and help learners thrive.

All the best to our participants as they continue to experiment and build over the coming months. The winning projects will be announced in April 2027—stay tuned for the results!

🎉Congratulations to Assistant Professor Aditya Nair on being named a 2026 Life Sciences Fellow by the Asian Young Scientist Fellowship (AYSF)🧑‍🔬

One of just 12 early-career scientists from Asia in the 2026 selection round, Asst Prof Nair is recognised for his pioneering research at the intersection of neuroscience, neural imaging, machine learning and AI, investigating how the brain encodes social and affective behaviours.

The Nanyang Assistant Professor of Neuroscience and Artificial Intelligence at said, “I am deeply humbled by this recognition. I hope to use this opportunity to champion the advancement of neuroscience and deepen our understanding of the factors that shape our mental well-being.”

His work has uncovered line attractor dynamics in the hypothalamus that encode affective states, providing the first causal evidence linking neural circuit dynamics to the persistence of emotional states.

As an Asian Young Scientist Fellow, Asst Prof Nair will receive fellowship funding to support his research, with opportunities to engage in AYSF’s annual conference and academic activities, and network with leading young scientists across Asia. The fellowship will also support his research into how affective and cognitive processes interact during social behaviour, using AI-driven modelling and large-scale neural recording.

Watching the toll an illness took on her friend’s life inspired Dr Lee Xin Tien to pursue medicine.

While studying at LKCMedicine, she also honed her leadership skills by representing her batch for two years, working with the School administration to improve the student experience, and organising an Asian Medical Students’ Association event that brought together medical students from around the world.

Her toughest stretch came in Year 3 during clinical postings, when the volume of content and faster pace affected her health. But with the support of friends and the LKCMedicine community, she navigated through the tough times and emerged stronger.

Currently a House Officer at Tan Tock Seng Hospital, Dr Lee is pursuing Emergency Medicine because she finds that every day is different, given that her work scope spans many specialties. In the future, she hopes to move into hospital administration to help create a good working environment for staff.

He has also provided outstanding leadership as Vice-Dean (Research) at , strengthening Singapore's respiratory research ecosystem, building international collaborations, and mentoring the next generation of clinicians and scientists.

👨‍🏫 Prof Andrew Tan has distinguished himself through impactful research, innovation and entrepreneurship, advancing discoveries in metabolic disorders, fatty liver disease and liver cancer into meaningful real-world applications. 🤝 LKCMedicine and SGInnovate have partnered to strengthen Singapore's AI-in-healthcare talent pipeline, creating new opportunities at the intersection of artificial intelligence, deep technology and healthcare.

The partnership comes at a timely moment as welcomes the inaugural cohort of its Master of Science in AI in Medicine programme. Together, LKCMedicine and SGInnovate will help students connect classroom learning with real-world experience through industry projects, internships, traineeships and engagement with Singapore's innovation ecosystem.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, our Vice-Dean of Innovation and Enterprise Prof Andrew Tan, highlighted the importance of preparing graduates not just to use AI, but to understand its strengths and limitations and contribute to the ethical and effective adoption of technology in healthcare.

The event also featured sharing sessions by health tech and deep tech startups, including Gray Matter Solutions, ChemT Bio, HealthGen and Oncoshot, offering students insights into entrepreneurship, innovation and emerging career pathways in the AI and healthcare sectors.

We look forward to the ideas, collaborations and opportunities that this partnership will create as we prepare the next generation of talent for Singapore's AI-enabled healthcare future.

At 18, Dr Roshini Selvakumar spent six months interning at a hospital. The experience affirmed what she had already begun to feel through personal health scares in her family: medicine was more than just a career, it was her calling.

Her international experiences shaped that perspective further. During her Neurology elective in London, she observed patients with complex and rare conditions, including severe Guillain–Barré syndrome, and witnessed remarkable journeys of recovery. The experience also opened her eyes to the realities of practising medicine when access to investigations and treatment is limited.

Being able to meet patients every day, comfort them in vulnerable moments and contribute to their care showed Dr Roshini that healthcare was a field she could see herself in for the long term.

Today, as a House Officer at Sengkang General Hospital’s General Surgery, she hopes to remain involved in research and learning as she develops her clinical career.

Welcoming the Class of 2031 in his latest Dean’s Blog, Prof Joseph Sung reminds us that while hospitals will change and technology will advance, a medical career always rests on three pillars: scientific excellence, compassion, and integrity.
