What happens when classroom learning meets a real business challenge?

As part of the same MSIG industry consulting project, Benedita and her teammates, including Knut, had the opportunity to present their recommendations to regional leaders in Hong Kong.

Over four months, the team analysed renewable energy policies and market opportunities across 17 APAC markets, identifying strategic opportunities to support the region’s energy transition through green underwriting. More than an academic exercise, the project challenged them to deliver solutions with real business value.

Reflecting on the experience, Benedita shared:

“Our goal was never just a grade — we wanted to deliver something the company could actually use.”

From leading a multidisciplinary team to translating complex research into actionable business insights, the experience reinforced an important lesson: impactful work begins when you're willing to go beyond what's expected.

How do you transform thousands of data points into insights that your corporate partner can use?

As part of the same MSIG industry consulting project, Knut and his teammates, including Benedita, worked on building a database of more than 7,300 renewable energy projects across 17 markets and developed an interactive dashboard to help visualise regional opportunities.

One of the most valuable takeaways from Knut’s experience was the critical role of communication throughout the project. The experience taught him that presenting data is about answering questions, not just sharing results:

“Technically sound analysis can fall flat if it isn’t positioned around the questions that stakeholders are actually asking.”

Through this shared industry collaboration with MSIG, the team learnt that impactful business decisions require more than rigorous analysis — they require clarity, context, and the ability to translate insights into action.

MSc in Sustainable and Green Finance (SGF) students from the August 2026 intake had the opportunity to hear firsthand from current SGF students about their experiences with the Capstone Project.

Our current students also shared valuable advice with the incoming cohort:

💬 “Throughout the Capstone, it is also important to be understanding and support each other, especially when working with different frameworks and methodologies.” - Li Wei Xi

💬 “Since we worked in the same groups during Semester 1, I had the opportunity to understand my teammates’ strengths and weaknesses, which made it easier for us to work together and divide responsibilities according to each person’s strengths when we started our Capstone Project.” - Tan Hui Ying

The sharing session was also joined by Professor Weina and Professor Tien Foo, who connected with students and engaged in conversations as our newest SGF cohort begins their journey. A meaningful opportunity to learn from those who have gone before, build new connections, and look ahead to the experiences that await.
