The study examined socioeconomic inequalities in teenage pregnancy among adolescent girls aged 15โ19 years in Somaliland using nationally representative data from the 2020 Somaliland Demographic and Health Survey. A total of 258 adolescents were analyzed using the concentration index and Wagstaff decomposition methods.
The findings showed a weighted teenage pregnancy prevalence of ๐ญ๐ฑ.๐ฌ๐ฏ%, while the concentration index of โ๐ฌ.๐ญ๐ด๐ฐ๐ฐ demonstrated that teenage pregnancy was disproportionately concentrated among adolescents from poorer households.

๐ฌ This publication provides important evidence on the unequal socioeconomic distribution of teenage pregnancy in Somaliland and identifies education, early marriage, age, marital status, and household wealth as major contributors to the observed inequality. The findings support the need for multisectoral interventions that strengthen girlsโ education, delay early marriage, reduce socioeconomic disadvantage, and improve equitable access to adolescent sexual and reproductive health services.
