Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital Hosts "Promoting Confident and Anxiety-Free English Communication Workshop"

The Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University successfully conducted an innovative English communication workshop on Friday, May 22, 2026, from 12:00-1:30 PM at the Navamindrapobitr 84th Anniversary Building, 26th Floor.

The workshop brought together medical professionals and students to address common language barriers and build confidence in English communication. Prof. Scott Nelson, International Advisor for SiGMA Program, served as the featured presenter, delivering insights on "How to build a relaxed conversation for encouraging participants' confidence."

Assoc. Prof. Suree Sompradeekul from the Department of Medicine expertly facilitated the session as emcee, leading interactive participant interviews where attendees shared their perspectives and experiences - both from those who have traveled abroad for international electives or presentations and those who haven't had such opportunities yet.

Key participants included Assoc. Prof. Pornpan Koomanachai, Assistant Dean for Corporate Communication & International Relations, who contributed to the collaborative learning environment.

The 90-minute program featured a well-structured agenda including opening remarks about the workshop's origins and the importance of English language encouragement, followed by the interactive interview session, Prof. Nelson's presentation, and concluding with an engaging discussion and Q&A session.

This initiative demonstrates Siriraj's commitment to preparing its medical community for global collaboration and international academic opportunities, creating a supportive environment where healthcare professionals can overcome language anxiety and develop confident communication skills.

Siriraj and SICRES Executives Forge Clinical Research Ties with Chulabhorn Royal Academy

BANGKOK — An executive delegation from the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, and the Siriraj Institute of Clinical Research (SiCRES) paid an official visit to the Chulabhorn Royal Academy on May 20, 2026, to discuss and advance collaborative clinical research initiatives.

The Siriraj delegation was led by Prof. Apichat Asavamongkolkul, M.D., Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, alongside Prof. Yongyut Sirivatanauksorn, M.D., Ph.D., Director of Siriraj Hospital. They were joined by hospital deputy directors Assoc. Prof. Sorawit Viravan, M.D., Asst. Prof. Theerawoot Tharmviboonsri, M.D., and Assoc. Prof. Pochamana Phisalprapa, M.D., Ph.D., Representing SICRES were Emeritus Prof. Kulkanya Chokephaibulkit, M.D., Advisor to SICRES, and Assoc. Prof. Pongsakorn Tantilipikorn, M.D., Ph.D., Director of SICRES, accompanied by their deputy directors.

The visiting delegation was welcomed by executive hosts from the Chulabhorn Royal Academy, including Emeritus Prof. Rajata Rajatanavin, M.D., Acting Deputy Secretary-General of the Chulabhorn Royal Academy; Chumut Phanthunane, M.D., Acting Deputy Director of the Office of Research and Innovation Administration; Assoc. Prof. Surasak Leelaudomlipi, M.D., Acting Director of Chulabhorn Hospital; and Assoc. Prof. Danupon Nantajit, Ph.D., Director of the Office of Research and Innovation Administration. The reception took place at the 7th-floor meeting room of the Clinical Research Administration Division, Office of Research and Innovation Administration.

During the visit, the Siriraj executives toured the clinical research facilities. Both institutions engaged in collaborative discussions aimed at promoting the development of clinical research and sustainably elevating the medical and public health capabilities of the country.

Symposium and Workshop on Pediatric Airway Management (Hands-on)

The Department of Otolaryngology, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, organized the Symposium and Workshop on Pediatric Airway Management (Hands-on) on May 19, 2026, at the Siriraj Training and Education Center for Clinical Skills (SiTEC), 4th Floor, Srisavarinthira Building.

The workshop was expertly guided by a distinguished team of specialists, led by Course Director Asst. Prof. Vannipa Vathanophas, alongside numerous experts in the field of pediatric otolaryngology.

This intensive hands-on program was designed to advance knowledge and surgical skills in managing complex pediatric airway conditions among residents, fellows, and specialized practitioners. Participants engaged in comprehensive symposiums and specialized hands-on workshops covering critical topics, including difficult airways in pediatrics (DL – Telescope and balloon dilation), pediatric tracheotomy, pediatric flexible endoscopic evaluation, supraglottoplasty, and the removal of foreign bodies in the pediatric airway.

The workshop integrated a structured hands-on training curriculum, seamlessly combining theoretical components with practical simulation-based training to significantly enhance clinical and surgical proficiency.

Beyond skill development, the event aimed to foster academic and research collaborations while promoting multidisciplinary teamwork and ensuring the highest standards of safety in pediatric airway management.

Short Course Training Program on Transoral Endoscopic Thyroidectomy and Head Neck Surgery

The Department of Otolaryngology, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, organized the "Short Course Training Program on Transoral Endoscopic Thyroidectomy and Head Neck Surgery" from May 14–15, 2026, at the Siriraj Training and Education Center for Clinical Skills (SiTEC).

The workshop was expertly guided by a team of specialists from Siriraj Hospital, led by Course Directors Asst. Prof. Prachya Maneeprasopchoke and Asst. Prof. Paveena Pithuksurachai, along with Assoc. Prof. Warut Pongsapich and Asst. Prof. Paiboon Sureepong.

This intensive hands-on program was designed to advance knowledge and surgical skills in the Transoral Endoscopic Thyroidectomy Vestibular Approach (TOETVA) and complex head and neck surgeries. Participants engaged in expert lectures, specialized lunch symposia, and practical hands-on cadaver dissections at dedicated training stations.

The workshop integrated a structured hands-on training curriculum, combining theoretical components with extensive practical sessions. These included step-by-step TOETVA procedures, parotidectomy, neck dissection, laryngectomy, and various regional flap reconstructions (DP, PMM, and Forehead flaps) to enhance surgical proficiency.

Beyond skill development, the event aimed to foster ongoing medical education, promote multidisciplinary teamwork within the field, and ensure the highest standards of structural and functional outcomes in head and neck surgery.
