The 2nd International Conference of “Historical Treaties of Southeast Asia”
We are pleased to announce the call for Paper for the 2nd International Conference under the research project "Historical Treaties of Southeast Asia: A research project in global diplomacy history."
🏛 Theme:
"Treaties and Tributes: Asian agency and performativity in cross-cultural diplomacy, c. 1400-1975"
This conference seeks to evaluate the current state of research on diplomatic and interpolity relations in Asia. By moving beyond Eurocentric narratives, we aim to highlight the agency, motivations, and worldviews of Asian actors—including rulers, courtiers, ministers, envoys, and "informal" participants such as merchants, interpreters, and religious teachers.

📝 Participation Guidelines
We welcome both Panel Proposals (3–5 presentations) and Individual Paper Proposals. All proposals should be sent as a Word document to: [email protected]
💰 Costs and Scholarship
- FREE of charge for active participants (Presenters, Chairs, and Commentators).
- General attendees may participate for a fee (registration details to follow).
- Note: Participants are responsible for their own travel and accommodation.
🤝 Organization
The conference is organized by the Faculty of Political Science, Pridi Banomyong International College (PBIC), and Thai Khadi Research Institute, Thammasat University, in collaboration with the research program Historical Treaties of Southeast Asia (financed by the Swedish Research Council and hosted by Linnaeus University).
