Today, Grays Harbor College students had the opportunity to meet with U.S. Senator Patty Murray's staff and demonstrated outstanding leadership by sharing what it means to pursue higher education in a rural community. Thank you to Alice, David, Derek, Donald, Kayla, Legend, Lisa, Michael, and Scyeland for speaking on behalf of rural community college students and representing GHC so well!

During a student success panel, the group spoke with Catalina Amórtegui, Thurston County and Olympic Peninsula Director, and Abby Laver, Legislative Aide from Sen. Murray’s Washington D.C. office. The students shared their experiences overcoming challenges including food and housing insecurity, transportation and rising fuel costs, parenting and family responsibilities, recovery journeys, financial barriers, and more. They also spoke about their aspirations to build meaningful careers, strengthen their communities, and help others facing similar obstacles.

The visit also included tours of TRIO, Wunderland Childcare Center, the Harbor Landing Food Pantry, and the Nursing Simulation Lab, highlighting some of GHC's programs and resources that help students persist through challenges, reach graduation, and prepare for in-demand careers.

Way to go, Chokers! 💙
