Dr. Rainwater's Fundamentals of Fitness and Performance class came in to use the lab today. The students used our space to test out their vertical and broad jumps.⠀

Both the vertical jump and broad jump tests have been shown to be a valid and reliable measure of lower body explosive power. Both of these tests are commonly used for accessing athletes throughout their careers.

Dr. Ruot's Exercise Prescription class used the Firstbeat system to track their training effect (TE) using their prescribed HR Zones from last week. ⠀

The Firstbeat system allows coaches and athletes to see the degree of stress placed on the body during physical activity. ⠀

Training effect is described on a scale of 0-5. 0 being no effect and 5.0 being temporarily overreaching. ⠀

This allows us to look at athletes individually during or after training. We can then make decisions based on how much strain they endured during a workout or practice.

This week begins Bod Pod testing with Dr. Rainwater's Fundamentals of Fitness and Performance class. We will be performing tests on students throughout the semester for them to better understand & communicate the testing process to future clients, patients, or athletes. ⠀

This course, as part of the Exercise Science curriculum, introduces students to the fundamental components of lifetime, motor, and sports performance fitness. The course includes psycho-motor components allowing students to experience basic fitness testing, fitness assessment, and introductory personal fitness planning.

Dr. Ruot's Exercise Prescription class working hard after a long weekend. Today the class used various pieces of equipment to meet their calculated heart rate zones, which they calculated at the beginning of class. Using the RPE scale and %HRR they were able to understand what future clients and athletes will encounter during exercise.
