Today, we hosted state officials—including Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger and Secretary of Health and Human Resources Marvin Figueroa—alongside our local healthcare community partners for a roundtable discussion on the future of Rural Health and a firsthand look at our healthcare training facilities.

During a tour of our classrooms and high-tech simulation labs, Governor Spanberger announced a $127,500 Rural Health Transformation grant awarded to VHCC! This vital funding directly supports the expansion of our Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) program, allowing us to add courses, increase capacity, and train more local students to meet critical healthcare needs in our rural communities.

We are deeply grateful for this investment and for the dedication of our regional healthcare partners. By working together to train our future healthcare heroes locally, we are building a stronger, healthier Southwest Virginia.

Come visit the campus gallery this summer semester to experience the vibrant works of art in the Alesha Russell Art Exhibition, showcasing the talent of our very own VHCC community artist, Alesha Russell. 🎨

Followers of the arts at VHCC may recognize Alesha from her stunning performances in our choir or her roles in campus plays, but her creativity extends far beyond the stage. Her acrylic-on-canvas paintings are wonderfully delightful, as seen on her cover design of our Spring 2026 Arts Array Brochure!

What makes this exhibition even more special is that Alesha currently serves VHCC as our Wolf Grounds Coffee Shop Manager. She is an incredible talent who shines both inside and outside of work, whether she’s crafting the perfect latte or a beautiful painting.

The VHCC Art Gallery is located in the VHCC library (LRC) and is open during regular business hours. This exhibition is part of our Spring 2026 Arts Array event series and will be on display through August.

We are incredibly proud to announce that VHCC’s Precision Machining student team, “The Wolfpack,” has won the Bronze Medal in the nationwide 2026 Phillips Design & Machining Student Competition.

Competing against institutions from across the country, our students designed and manufactured a custom metal Ram Pump. This device uses natural water pressure to move water to higher elevations without the need for electricity or fuel. Inspired by the impacts of Hurricane Helene, the team built this durable, stainless steel pump to provide a sustainable water solution for our rural neighbors in times of need.

We congratulate our students on this national achievement and their dedication to our community. Read the full press release at: www.vhcc.edu/news/precision-machining-student-team-wins-bronze-national-competition
