Seniors,

In the year 2012, when you began Pre-K at the age of 4, we called you the Class of 2026. The year 2026 seemed like an eternity away. We blinked, and it’s GRADUATION DAY!

Graduation is a celebration of one of your biggest accomplishments in life. You have worked hard for 14 years. You have proven your success. What an honor and an amazing achievement!

We all know that it takes a village. If you are a parent or guardian of one of our Cook High graduates, thank you! Thank you for your support, your encouragement, and your dedication to seeing that your child achieves his or her goals. Thank you for joining our faculty and staff in being your child’s biggest cheerleader. Thank you for your support of the Cook County School System.

We pray that graduation is one of the first of many milestones and celebrations in your life. May these past 14 years be full of memories that you will never forget. May you always remember who you are and what you stand for. You are ENOUGH! You each have a story to tell. Continue to write the chapters!

As one of our favorite authors, Dr. Suess, reminds us in his book “Oh The Places You Will Go!”

You have brains in your head.
You have feet in your shoes.
You can steer yourself any direction you choose.
You’re on your own, and you know what you know.
And YOU are the one who will decide where to go.
“Oh the Places you will go!”

Congratulations, Class of 2026! Once a HORNET, Always A HORNET!

Joy J. Folsom, Superintendent &
Cook County Board of Education 🐝

Cook County Schools lost another precious member of our family again this week. Deena dedicated her entire career to the students and families of our community. She was a wonderful teacher, and she touched so many lives with all the extra things she did outside of her classroom. Deena’s legacy will live forever in our hearts! Continued prayers for her family, students, and friends. 🖤💛

Mrs. Deena M. Griffin, 60 of Sparks, Georgia passed away at her residence on May 13, 2026. Mrs. Griffin was born March 23, 1966 in Adel, Georgia to the late Larry W. She served as the music director for over 11 years. She was employed by the Cook County Board of Education for over 33 years where she taught at the Cook Middle School. Continuing her education at Valdosta State, she received her Bachelor's Degree and began teaching Math at Cook Middle School in August of 1993. She went on to complete her Master's and Education Specialist degrees and was considered a master math teacher. She retired in 2023 after 30 years in the classroom. However, she returned to continue teaching (2023-2026) and taught on the last day of her life.
In August of 1983, Deena Arnold met Mike Griffin. After completing a day of summer band camp, Mike took her to the Dairy Queen and that was the beginning of their 43 years together. They Married on December 28, 1985.
