UMUC Psi Chi Chapter

UMUC Psi Chi Chapter UMUC Chapter of Psi Chi, the International Honor Society in Psychology Invitations are distributed and inductions held twice annually, in the spring and fall.

The UMUC Psi Chi Chapter is UMUC's largest honor society with over 400 student and alumni members and growing. To qualify for membership, students must have declared a major or minor in psychology, completed at least 36 credits towards a bachelor’s degree, completed at least 9 credits of psychology courses, and be in the top 35 percent of their class. Psi Chi is the English transliteration of the

Greek letters psi (Ψ) and chi (Χ). These letters represent "psyche" (ψυχη), Greek for "mind," and "cheires" (χειρες), Greek for "hand," together symbolizing scholarship and enrichment of the mind and fellowship and cooperation in research. Psi Chi was originally founded on September 4, 1929, during the Ninth International Congress of Psychology at Yale University and is affiliated with the American Psychological Association and the Association for Psychological Science.
