Tonight at 7pm Thomas May, PhD, will be discussing ethical issues surrounding vaccines. His presentation will examine the phenomenon of vaccine hesitancy, and its roots in concerns about vaccine safety. Particular attention will be paid to the reasoning underlying vaccine safety concerns, what can and cannot be inferred from existing evidence concerning vaccine safety, and the importance of transparency and trust for pandemic response efforts.
Professor May is the Floyd and Judy Rogers Endowed Professor at the Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine at Washington State University, and Research Investigator at the Hudson Alpha Institute for Biotechnology. He has published in the New England Journal of Medicine, Nature, Science, American Journal of Public Health, American Journal of Bioethics, The Hastings Center Report, and elsewhere.
