Roanoke-Chowan Community College was honored to welcome State Board member Scott Ottman and Amy Mast, Executive Director of State Board Relations for the NC Community College System, to campus. Mr. Ottman and Ms. Mast spent the morning with President Dr. Murry Williams, Executive Vice President Dr. Oliver, and Vice President for Workforce, Institutional Advancement & Steven Mathews, their visit highlighted R-CCC's commitment to student success, workforce development, and innovation as we continue serving our communities and preparing tomorrow's workforce. 💙 Hear a Holocaust Survivor's Powerful Story of Resilience and Hope

Join Roanoke-Chowan Community College for a special virtual presentation featuring Holocaust survivor Renée Fink as part of the Americans and the Holocaust exhibition series.

Born in the Netherlands, Renée Fink went into hiding at age 4 during World War II. After surviving the war and later immigrating to the United States, she dedicated her life to sharing her experiences and educating others about the dangers of prejudice, hatred and intolerance.

Through her personal testimony, participants will gain a firsthand understanding of survival, courage and the lasting impact of the Holocaust.

This virtual event will be shown on the gym's large screens. Following the presentation, attendees are invited to participate in a Q&A session with Fink and then tour the Americans and the Holocaust exhibition.

🎼 The Work of Anneliese Landau

Join Roanoke-Chowan Community College on Wednesday, Sept. 16, at 9 a.m. for a virtual presentation exploring the remarkable life and work of Anneliese Landau, a Jewish music critic and scholar who escaped N**i Germany and rebuilt her life in the United States.

Speaker Dr. Lily Hirsch, a musicologist and expert on Anneliese Landau, will discuss Landau's experiences with censorship, discrimination and emigration during the 1930s and beyond. Through Landau's story, participants will gain a unique perspective on the challenges faced by Jewish refugees and the impact of N**i policies on artists and intellectuals.

📖 Explore North Carolina's Connection to Holocaust History

Join Roanoke-Chowan Community College for "North Carolina and the Holocaust," a special presentation by Katie Cunningham, director of education at the Stan Greenspon Holocaust Center.

This engaging session will explore the connections between North Carolina and the Holocaust, examining how global events were experienced and understood at the local level. Participants will learn about refugees who resettled in North Carolina, the response of communities and institutions during the 1930s and 1940s, and the role of newspapers and public opinion in shaping awareness of events in Europe.

The presentation encourages attendees to reflect on how individuals and communities respond to injustice and how local stories connect to broader historical events.
