USC Aiken External Programs Each year, a summer camp is hosted on campus that is guaranteed to be fun and enjoyable for any child.

Our office hosts events and conferences, programs for seniors, summer camps, professional development programs, and we customize programs based on the client's needs. The Office of External Programs, Continuing Education, and Conferences offers a wide selection of certificate and non-credit learning opportunities, as we support USC Aiken’s mission of serving the public. Services are also offered t

o accommodate meeting and event needs including renting an array of facilities with a variety of options for room set-ups and seating capacities.

Assistant Director (Admin Coord I), Salary: $35,568, USC Aiken External Programs
The Assistant Director of External Programs is charged with assisting the Executive Director of the Etherredge Center and External Programs in efforts to assess need, originate budget, plan, implement, and evaluate continuing education to ensure program success and maximize revenue generation. These activities include collaborating with (and marketing for) campus constituents, administration, and the general public, to make UofSC Aiken a leading provider of educational, activities in the community, by providing an array of programs for personal enrichment and continuing education. The Assistant Director will also be partially responsible for 25Live (or other facility management/scheduling program) for the UofSC Aiken campus. Minimum Requirements: Bachelor’s degree and 2 years related experience in business management, marketing, public administration, or administrative services; or equivalency. Must have significant experience in event planning. Preferred requirements include: Experience in marketing, program design, facility management software (25Live or current UofSC Aiken software), and interacting with the public. 9am - THE GOLDEN BLOCKS OF AUGUSTA: 1900-1950
This course is taking a look at some of the major African-American personalities in Augusta during the late 19th-early 20th Century. These include: Lucy Craft Laney, a visionary educator, administrator, and civil rights activist; Reverend C.T. Walker, who established Tabernacle Baptist Church and became an internationally renowned minister; Judson Lyons, an attorney and Registrar of the United States Treasury during the McKinley and Theodore Roosevelt administrations; Reverend Silas X. Floyd, a minister, poet, author, educator, historian, and starting in 1915, founder and editor of “Notes Among the Colored” section of The Augusta Chronicle; Dr. T.W. Josey, a well-known physician, public servant, and Medical Director for the Pilgrim Health and Life Insurance Company; and Amanda America Dickson Toomer, once the wealthiest African American woman in the United States.

10:30am – WORLD WAR I: THE GREAT WAR
Session III: Will cover the expansion of the war to a truly global conflict and the U.S. entry into the war in 1917. The role of the U.S., including expeditions to northern Russia and Siberia, will be discussed along with fighting in the Middle East and the Sykes-Picot Agreement which would have far-reaching consequences.

1:30pm – THE WOLF AMONG US: AN UP-TO-DATE LOOK AT MAN’S BEST FRIEND
History of domestication, the dog today; dog breeds.
Session II: The jaws of Death: efforts to make the ownership of pit bulls and other breeds of dog a felony.

9am - SUBMARINES YESTERDAY, TODAY AND TOMORROW
The third session will present today’s Ohio Class Trident submarine operations and submariner selection, training, and qualifications. The fourth session will discuss today and tomorrow’s force structure, missions, and all world capability.

11am - CAROLINA GRAPE & WINES: A HISTORY
The Carolinas have a long, rich history with grapes and wines. The Lords Proprietors saw grape cultivation as an economic basis for the new colony. In 1840, North Carolina was the leading wine producing state in the U.S. Thomas Jefferson’s cellar included early NC wines. North Carolina grapes launched the American wine industry and saved the French wine industry. Professor Helsley takes students on a four-week journey exploring the region’s marvelous indigenous grapes and the rollercoaster history of wine production in the Carolinas.
