The Summit Victim Assistance Academy is one of two nationally approved prerequisite trainings, offered in the state of Ohio, assisting individuals in becoming a National credentialed advocate. Participants who complete the 40 hour academy will become equipped to use NOVA’s (National Organization for Victim Assistance) crisis intervention model t

o assist individuals impacted by a victimization or a traumatic events. Additionally, participants will increase their knowledge about the judicial system, victims’ rights as well as resources available for both victims and the advocate providing the service. Summit Academy:
What can I expect to learn from the academy? Participants can expect to graduate from the Summit Victim Assistance Academy with a basic knowledge of varied types of trauma/victimizations impacting our world. More importantly, participants will gain expert skills needed to provide crisis intervention to individuals affected by trauma. Law enforcement, social workers, counselors, attorneys, medical personnel, first responders, clergy, students and of course victim advocates. The academy is open to all of those in the helping profession who may have the need to assist someone who has experienced trauma. This training is required for all individuals who volunteer or intern with Victim Assistance program. What topics will be covered? History of the Victims Right's Movement

What does the academy have to do with the National Advocate Credentialing Program? Summit Victim Assistance Academy was created by our Executive Director, Leanne Graham in January 2015. As Leanne wanted to standardize services provided by the advocates, volunteers and interns at the agency, she utilized her years of experience and best practices to create the academy's curriculum. This curriculum was submitted to the National Organization of Victim Assistance Program's National Advocate Credentialing Program (NACP) and approved.
