We are the University of Akron's public speaking organization and we are open to all majors of study! The goals of Toastmasters is to facilitate development of your public speaking skills. We do this by creating an environment where we can all comfortably practice speech and communication skills while offering support with constructive criticisms. You will be expected communicate effectively in th

e real world. There is no avoiding it. Since there is no avoiding it, there is no sense in fearing it or being unrefined at it. Student Toastmasters is the universal refinement solution for your speaking skills. Employers look for it in your background as a stamp approval. Countless graduates return and tell us that they were automatically moved to the top of the list because they mentioned their experience with Toastmasters in their interview or in their resume. As a member you will give speeches to fellow students. Some topics will be comical, some deal with current events and some deal with serious personal issues. Speeches given are prepared in advance or impromptu, depending on the schedule of events. Fellow students offer constructive criticism to help one improve their speaking abilities. The Student Toastmasters also hold several speech contests each semester sponsored by local businesses and firms. This is a way for members to receive professional feedback and for them to potential employers. Communication and leadership cannot be learned in one day, but the experience gained through Toastmasters will help these skills to grow. Consider it an investment in your future. Again, welcome, and we look forward to getting toasted with you this year!
