New Print Management System: Transition from Pharos to Papercut for Student Printing

Beginning on September 26th, Information Technology Services (ITS) will commence the rollout of a new print management system for all campus labs and public print stations. The existing Pharos system will be replaced with Papercut, a robust and user-friendly solution aimed at enhancing the printing experience for students, faculty, and staff. This significant upgrade promises to deliver a suite of new features, particularly addressing the needs of individuals bringing their own devices—including iOS and Android users.

Getting Started with Papercut for your personal device.

The basic process includes:
1. Connect your device to the campus Wi-Fi network.
2. Download and setup Print Mobility for your device by visiting https://print.uanet.edu:9164/setup
3. Log in to the Papercut web portal using your campus credentials.
4. Upload your file or select the print option from supported mobile apps.
5. Visit any Papercut-enabled print station, authenticate, and release your print job.

*Lab computers with print stations will be already configured to print using Papercut.

Scheduled Maintenance

Starting this Sunday, September 21st, we are re-establishing a regular maintenance window for our IT systems. The window will be 5 AM to 9 AM on the third Sunday of each month. We will send out reminders via the Digest and MyAkron before each date. We will identify the impact, for example this weekend all wired and wireless network services will be impacted during the maintenance window. If services are not restored by the end of the maintenance window, we will post updates in MyAkron.

If you have any questions please visit https://support.uakron.edu to open a ticket with your questions.

Microsoft Exchange Issue

As we continue to monitor, we are seeing this has also caused issues for user accessing their email on mobile devices in addition to the previously noted web access. Microsoft has indicated a fix is being applied, but no time frame was give for full restoration of service.

Original: 9/11/25

Microsoft has posted the following service health issue:

“We're investigating an issue affecting a portion of infrastructure in North America, where users may be unable to access their mailbox via any Exchange Online connection method.”

We do have some reports of people experiencing issue getting into their email, especially through the web portal. We will continue to monitor the notifications from Microsoft.

Phishing Email Warning

The University has received several reports of messages being sent to employees' personal email accounts purporting to be from members of UA’s leadership. These messages have been identified as “phishing” emails which originated from an email hosting company in eastern Europe. All messages sent to UA work addresses of employees were blocked by our automated systems. However, messages were received primarily to personal gmail accounts outside of the control of the University cybersecurity defenses.

Official communications by university leadership should be expected to come from university email addresses ending in .edu, and any email from unfamiliar sources should be treated with the highest levels of skepticism. If you are unsure of the validity of any message you have received, you can contact the Service Desk by phone at x6888 or by email at [email protected]
