✂️ CUT, COPY, & PASTE: ZINES ARE THE THEME AT THE LIBRARY! 📚

This fall, we're getting creative with zines!

As part of our Campus Collaborations series, the University Libraries are celebrating the wonderfully weird, creative, and sometimes radical world of zines through workshops, presentations, and community gatherings!

What's a zine? Think DIY, self-published creations that can be about just about anything. From science fiction fandoms and punk culture to political activism, personal storytelling, and art, zines have a long history of giving people a space to share their voices outside traditional publishing.

Whether you've been making zines for years or you're just learning what they are, there's something for you!

📖 Zine Bookbinding 101

Learn the basics of bookbinding and create your own hand-bound zine!

🎃 ARCH: Hallo'zine Making Workshop
📅 October 28 | 6–8 PM
📍 Creative Technologies Makerspace
Get spooky and creative with UAlbany's student literary journal, ARCH, while exploring the tools and techniques of zine-making!

✊ The Radical History of Zines
📅 November 3 | 1–3 PM
📍 Minerva Room, University Library
Join Elizabeth Jakubowski from the New York State Library to explore the history of zines, see examples from the Factsheet Five collection, and make your own mini zine or comic!

🎨 UAlbany Zine Scene

📍 Creative Technologies Makerspace
Explore personal zine collections, swap stories, meet fellow zine enthusiasts, and enjoy some food and refreshments!

All experience levels are welcome, and you don't need to consider yourself an artist or writer to join in. Just bring your curiosity and creativity!

🎙️ Another brand-new episode of Librarians with Lattes has arrived, and we're getting spooky!

In our latest episode, Amanda sits down with two-time Bram Stoker Award-winning horror author Robert P. Ottone to talk about his newest novel, Amityville Awakens, his other works, the horror genre, and what goes into writing stories that keep us up at night. 👻📚

And because it's apparently a very small world, we discovered an unexpected UAlbany connection! UAlbany Anthropology professor Dr. Chris Wolff, who has also been a guest on Librarians with Lattes, designed a "Keep Amityville Weird" shirt for Robert, with all proceeds benefiting St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. We love when our worlds collide, especially for a good cause!

There’s a werewolf on campus… and it made its way to Duke University!

UAlbany Librarians Abby Adams, Angela Hackstadt, Kelsey O’Brien, and Computer Science graduate student Nick Cyran recently presented **Werewolf on Campus**, an IMLS-funded project, at Serious Play 2026 at Duke University!

We’re especially excited to highlight the role of student collaborators like Nick in bringing projects like this to life. From UAlbany to Serious Play, it’s great to see our students contributing their skills and perspectives to innovative work happening beyond the classroom.

Congratulations to the team on taking *Werewolf on Campus* on the road!

Join readers from UAlbany and beyond as we spend the month exploring this unsettling horror novel together. Discussion is taking place all month long in the University Libraries' Discord server in our Summer of Horror forum, where you can share reactions, theories, favorite moments, and plenty of spoiler-filled discussion as you read.

Looking for a summer position that blends technology, data, and real-world impact? The University at Albany Libraries are hiring a Graduate Assistant to support service development and assessment initiatives. This role will focus on building a Library Service Catalog/Knowledge Base in SharePoint and helping automate data collection for a Library Assessment Dashboard using Power Automate.

What you’ll work on:
Build and organize a SharePoint-based service catalog
Develop search functionality and explore chatbot tools for service discovery
Create Power Automate workflows for assessment data collection
Document and test tools for usability and effectiveness

✅ Required:
Enrollment in a UAlbany graduate program (6+ summer credits)
Experience with SharePoint and Power Automate
Strong organization and communication skills

📣 We’re Hiring: Outreach & Marketing Graduate Assistant (2026–2027 Academic Year)

The University at Albany Libraries are looking for a creative, motivated graduate student to join our team as our next Outreach & Marketing Graduate Assistant! This is a hands-on role where you’ll help shape how students connect with the Libraries. From planning events and supporting our Library Ambassadors program to creating social media content (especially Instagram), you’ll play an active role in student engagement across campus.

What you’ll do:
Support and help coordinate the Library Ambassadors program
Plan and execute outreach events and programming
Contribute to marketing strategies and campaigns
Create and manage social media content

We’re looking for someone creative, organized, and excited about connecting with students. While pursuing a degree in Library Science would be great, we welcome applicants from all graduate programs with relevant skills and interest!
