Fruits, veggies, and all your questions answered about college: that's the plan this Saturday, May 30, as we host booths in both the Corvallis AND Albany Farmers' Markets! Get produce from local farms, and brain food from your local community college.

More of a coffee person? We'll also have a table at Margin Coffee in downtown Albany! Same time, roughly 9am-noon.

Have questions about applying for fall (or this summer!), or programs and degrees, or financial aid, or what vegetable is Rocky the Roadrunner's favorite? We have all the answers.

The LBCC community mourns the loss of Leslie Hammond, Dean of Academic Foundations. In many ways Leslie was the ideal Roadrunner, embodying the college she loved so much - a thoughtful and supportive colleague, a savvy and adept problem-solver, a relentlessly positive champion of our student-centered mission. Her personality, wit, compassion, and intelligence will be profoundly missed.

Plans for memorial services are in process and will be announced soon, along with details on a LBCC Foundation fund for donations in her honor.

On this day in 1891, the first public display of Thomas Edison's prototype kinetoscope - sort of the first video screen - which showed short films (20-40 seconds) of vaudeville or circus acts, for a nickel a view. Which is roughly $1.93 in today's dollars.

This feels significant, like it could say something about today's use of YT or TikTok. Maybe? Have to think about it some more, after we watch a few more timelapse clips of people mowing lawns and cleaning sidewalks.

Happy birthday to the founder of modern nursing and "Lady with the Lamp," Florence Nightingale! Known for establishing hygiene and living standards, and professionalizing nursing roles for women.

Also known for a couple truly hardcore quotes she may or may not have actually said:

"I attribute my success to this - I never gave or took any excuse."

"Remember my name...you'll be screaming it later."

Use those quotes as you see fit. To inspire you to work harder, or scare you sensible.

Summer term registration is open to EVERYONE starting today! Of course, if you haven't applied yet, you gotta do that first. But once you do, you'll be connected with orientation and advising to help you get the summer classes you need.

Need to pick up a class you missed earlier in the year? We have it for you.
