Alphabet Countdown continues! S is for "Student Leadership Council," or SLC for short. Want to know about events on campus? Ask your SLC. Looking for info on clubs or other ways to add some fun to your college experience? Ask your SLC. Need resources for things like textbook affordability or mental health? Ask your SLC.

In many ways, the SLC is your one-stop-shop for all the things that can enhance your college experience, from the needed and necessary to the frivolous and fun. (Um, actually, there's nothing frivolous about free ice cream...) Want to get involved, and join the effort to make LBCC better for everyone? Ask your SLC. They have volunteer opportunities and SLC staff positions that need enthusiastic people like you! Check out linnbenton.edu/slc for details.

Welcome Day approaches! Get ready for Sept. 23 when we officially kick off Fall term with tons of fun in the courtyard from 9am-1pm.

On this day in 1965, The Beatles' single "Help!" reached #1 on the charts. Coincidentally, Linn-Benton Community College was established just one year later in 1966. Sometimes the universe works in mysterious ways.

Maybe you're feeling a little adrift in this mysterious universe, like you could use some help getting your feet back on the ground. LBCC is here for you! Start in the First Resort and we'll connect you to navigators, advisors, financial aid pros and anyone else you need to find the degree or certificate that works for you, as well as the on-campus resources and support that'll help you succeed.

Seeking help at LBCC worked for John, Paul, George and Ringo back in the 1960s, as these accurate photographic records show. It'll work for you, too.

On this day in 1873, Susan Blow started the nation's first public kindergarten in a suburb of St. Louis. Blow was inspired by the "learning through play" philosophy of German idealist Friedrich Fröbel. Remember playing games or singing songs to learn stuff in kindergarten? That's because of Susan Blow. If you're happy and you know it, think some thankful thoughts her way.

LBCC's Periwinkle Child Development Center starts the playful magic before kindergarten even starts, with lots of learning and laughter for pre-K kidlings. Learn more at: periwinklecdc.com!

Alphabet Countdown continues! P is for "public institution." That's what LBCC is, but what does it mean? Officially, it means we primarily get funding from the government. On the daily though, it means we're YOUR college. Whether you're John Q. Public or Jane Public or Jellybean Public or even have a different last name than "Public," we're here to serve you and we exist because of you. It's an honor and a responsibility we take very seriously.

So yeah, Linn-Benton Community College is our name, public service is our game. Anyone, at any stage of life, can find a chance at a better life here. That's the power of education, baby.

Welcome Day is just under one month away! Only a few more letters in this Alphabet Countdown to get through as we get ever closer to Sept. 23, the unofficial kick-off to Fall term.

Alphabet Countdown continues! O is for "online class." The internet - some say it's the wave of the future. In the present, we spend sooo muuuch tiiime on it. Like right now. Makes it the perfect place for education! LBCC offers more classes in an online delivery mode each term, giving you the freedom to stay at home or be on the go, and still work towards your degree. Online is great if you have work or family obligations, or just prefer working at your own pace a little more. Or just don't like being around people. (No judgment, we get it sometimes.)

If fully online isn't your thing, then look for other course mode options like hybrid (a mix of online and in-person), virtual (online, but synchronous), or the classic face-to-face at one of our three campuses.

Stay tuned for the rest of the Alphabet Countdown as we shuffle down to Welcome Day, Sept. 23, to kick off Fall term!

Can you rub your belly and pat your head at the same time? How about juggle bowling pins and tightrope walk simultaneously? Or even more bonkers - dual enroll your college experience? Whaaat?!

It's actually quite a bit easier than the juggling thing, or even the pat your head bit. You can dual enroll in a couple different ways: between LBCC and Oregon State (Degree Partnership, where you get an OSU degree but pay half as much for the LB classes you take), or LBCC and your high school (College Now, where you take college-level classes for free, from the comfort of your own high school).

This may be a lot of info to juggle, but we can help. Contact us at [email protected] to find out more! Then give yourself a pat on the head that you did. (You can do it after writing the email, doesn't have to be the same time.)
