Starting graduate school is a big step, and it is normal to feel excited, nervous, and uncertain all at the same time.

You do not have to have everything figured out before you begin. What matters most is starting with purpose, asking questions, building a routine, and giving yourself room to grow.

For anyone preparing for a new academic season, remember this: progress still counts, even when it feels small. One step, one assignment, one conversation, and one decision at a time can move you closer to the future you are building.

What is one thing that helped you feel more confident when starting something new?

Graduation is a meaningful milestone, but it is not the end of the growth process. For many graduates, the next chapter requires clarity, patience, adaptability, and the confidence to keep learning beyond the classroom.

A degree can open the door, but professional growth is built through how we apply knowledge, strengthen relationships, communicate our value, and remain open to new opportunities.

The first step after graduation does not have to be perfect. Sometimes the next role, project, internship, volunteer opportunity, or leadership experience becomes the bridge to something greater.

For graduates entering a new season, the goal is not to have every answer immediately. The goal is to keep moving with purpose.

What is one piece of advice you would give to someone building their next chapter after graduation?

Graduation season always reminds us that every achievement has a story behind it.

Behind every cap and gown are late nights, sacrifices, family support, prayer, discipline, and moments when giving up probably felt easier than pressing forward.

To every graduate stepping into a new chapter: be proud of yourself. You did not just earn a degree, certificate, diploma, or credential. You proved that commitment still matters.

What is one piece of advice you would give to a recent graduate?

Scholarship Recipient Story: Marcus Reynolds

Marcus Reynolds represents the kind of student whose determination speaks before he ever enters a room.

As an upcoming 2026 graduate of the School of Liberal Studies at Savannah High School, Marcus has shown what it means to remain focused, disciplined, and committed to the future he is building. His academic journey reflects perseverance, purpose, and a willingness to keep moving forward even when the path requires sacrifice and hard work.

This year, Marcus was selected as the first outstanding scholarship recipient for the current service year, a recognition that honors not only his achievements, but also his potential. His selection is a reminder that scholarships do more than provide financial support. They affirm a student’s promise, reward preparation, and open doors to new opportunities.

Marcus is preparing to attend Albany State University in Fall 2026, where he will join the Golden Ram family and continue writing the next chapter of his story. As he steps into this new season, he carries with him the pride of his school, his family, his community, and every person who has invested in his success.

His journey reflects the spirit of being UNSINKABLE: steady under pressure, determined through challenges, and ready to rise.

Congratulations, Marcus. Your future is already speaking, and Albany State is gaining a scholar with vision, strength, and purpose. 💙💛🐏

Commencement Spotlight:

Cauntillia K. Pollard, a native of Albany, will graduate this May from Albany State University with a Master of Public Administration.

Throughout her graduate journey, Cauntillia has exemplified resilience, leadership, and purpose. She successfully defended her Capstone, “A Case Study Analysis of Workplace Psychological Safety and Employee Retention in the City of Atlanta,” while maintaining a 4.0 GPA, even in the midst of profound personal loss, grieving the passing of three grandparents during her matriculation. Her ability to persist with excellence reflects both her discipline and her commitment to the work she is called to do.

Cauntillia served as President of the Public Administration Student Association and Vice President of Pi Alpha Alpha, the global honor society for public affairs and administration. She is also an active member of the American Society for Public Administration, continuing to build meaningful connections within the field. Her leadership and service have earned her multiple recognitions, as well as the respect and support of both her peers and faculty, relationships she will carry with her for years to come.

While completing her degree, Cauntillia worked full-time within the Graduate School, gaining a unique dual perspective as both a student and a professional. This experience strengthened her understanding of higher education systems, student engagement, and organizational operations, allowing her to lead with both insight and intention.

Beyond her academic and professional accomplishments, Cauntillia is a dedicated mother to her teenage daughter, Ariana, whom she actively supports in pageantry, sports, and leadership development. By modeling discipline, confidence, and service, she is intentionally shaping the next generation of leadership, instilling in her daughter a sense of purpose and vision for the future.

Following graduation, Cauntillia has received employment opportunities aligned with her career path, with organizations recognizing her leadership, presence, and potential from the very first interaction. She is committed to continuing her growth in public administration, with a focus on strengthening workplaces, improving systems, and leading with integrity.

Cauntillia’s journey reflects more than academic success, it is a testament to perseverance, service, and the power of leading by example.
