Our College Transfer (Associate in Arts or Science) program is designed to parallel the freshman and sophomore years of study of a four-year college or university. See the following link: https://www.stanly.edu/college-information/notice-nondiscrimination
The program has three transferable options. The Associate in Arts degree is a good choice for future education, social science (history, psycho
logy, sociology, economics, business, etc.), liberal arts (languages, English, fine arts, etc.) majors, or a professional school that requires a strong liberal arts background. The mathematics and science requirements are usually fewer than for an Associate in Science degree. In most cases, if a student wishes to attend a university, the Associate in Arts degree is the best degree to pursue. If a student completes at least the Transfer Core Diploma (44-Core), she will have her general education requirements met at a UNC-system university. It is wise for all students wishing to transfer to a university to complete either the AA or the Core-44. The College faculty and counseling staff will work closely with students to plan their transfer programs. The courses in the program are designed to transfer to most private colleges and all colleges in the University of North Carolina System (senior institutions). Some SCC courses may not meet general education core requirements. Therefore, students should work closely with their advisors when registering for courses and planning their futures. If a student has an Associate in Arts (A.A.) degree and at least a 2.0 grade point average, he or she will be considered for transfer by the senior institution. If the student meets minimum admission requirements for the UNC System, he or she may transfer before completing the A.A. degree; however, completing the A.A. degree with at least a 2.0 grade point average will increase transferability to the student’s college of choice. The Associate in Science degree is a good choice for future architecture, engineering, math, science (biology, chemistry, physics, etc.) or technical (computer science) majors. Students completing the Transfer Core (Core 44) requirements will receive a diploma in the transfer general education core. The Transfer Core Diploma is designed for two specific groups: 1) Students who plan to transfer to a university without completing the Associate in Arts degree, and 2) Associate in Applied Science degree graduates and current students who wish to continue their studies at a university. The Transfer Core Diploma will complete general education requirements for most bachelor degree programs in the UNC system. Students who transfer without completing this 44-hour diploma may not receive full credit towards their general education requirements at the university; however, students who complete the transfer core diploma with grades of “C” or better in each of their courses, will have completed their general education (not major) core requirements for the university. Please see a transfer advisor for more information about University Transfer and the Core 44.
