If you have ever wondered what the Russian Gulch Waterfall looks like in a big storm, here you go! Zalmon, my son, and I went up there today to see what nature hath wrought!

On 8/27 and 8/29, a bear and raccoons chose to eat all our apples at Albion Field Station behind my house.Raccoons (Dates on some videos are wrong as the camera reset without my noticing. It is better than the bears getting into people's cars. A couple of years ago, someone stopped at Costco and bout a bag of Dog food to use when they got home. During the night, the bear found the car unlocked and, using his paw, opened the car door and entered the car, where it ate its fill on dog food. Fortunately, the bear did not eat the seats or break anything in the car. I do, however, suspect they will be finding dog food in small corners in the car for years. If you come to Albion, be sure to lock your car at night. I often find bear paw prints on my car doors where they have pulled on the door handle to see if the door will open.

This month is a celebration for me and for the Marine environment. April 6, 2024, I found a Pycnopodia seastar. The first I had seen in at least 4 years. This month, we celebrate a full year of documenting the sestars' growth and size change. In the first picture, it was about 6cm across; it is now about 16 cm across and has more arms. I have photographed it at least 20 separate times. It is the only regularly seen pycnopodia in all of California. It is listed as critically endangered, so seeing one is rare. If you look on iNaturalist, you can see each seastar as those who look for them post their locations and hopefully their recovery.
