Albion College's First Tunnicliff Scholar Presents South Africa Research (-)

International impacts on sustainability work is the topic for Albion College's first Tunnicliff Fellow—David Utrata, '15—in a public presentation Thursday, April 14, at 7 p.m. in the Bobbitt Visual Arts Center.

A member of the Ford Institute for Leadership in Public Policy and Service and the Center for Sustainability and the Environment, Utrata spent the fall 2014 semester in Stellenbosch, South Africa. Visiting national parks as well as utility infrastructures in South Africa, Utrata developed an awareness of how sustainability movements in South Africa often focused on social justice and development, as opposed to the West's more economically focused projects. (Read more about his off-campus experience.)

The Tunnicliff Endowment at Albion College was established following the untimely 2011 death of former Albion mayor and Albion College Ford Institute Director Kim Tunnicliff. The endowment supports students engaging in a study-abroad program, as international experiences were among Tunnicliff's educational passions. Originally appointed at Albion in 1984 as a faculty member in the Political Science Department, Tunnicliff's post-Albion career included leadership positions with the Associated Colleges of the Midwest, Augustana College and the College of Wooster.

This event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact the College's Center for International Education secretary Sherri Lang, [email protected] or 517/629-0307.
