University of New Mexico Physician Assistant Program The Physician Assistant Program is administered within the Department of Family & Community Medicine.

The mission of the University of New Mexico Physician Assistant (PA) Program is to educate PA students to become exemplary providers with a focus on primary care medicine for the underserved and rural populations of New Mexico. Student instruction is provided by physician assistant faculty along with integrative instruction with the School of Medicine. Students will spend a large part of their mor

nings in basic sciences lectures and labs given by School of Medicine faculty and at least 6 hours in small group tutorials in the PA classrooms. Afternoons are devoted to PA classes, workshops, and clinical skills. A Master of Science degree will be awarded upon successful completion of the curriculum.

The University of New Mexico Physician Assistant Program is now accepting applications for the 2026-2027 admission cycle. Early submission is encouraged, and applications must be verified by August 1, 2026 to be considered in this admission cycle.

The PA Program at UNM is dedicated to training compassionate, highly skilled PAs to serve New Mexico’s rural and underserved communities. Our mission‑driven curriculum prepares students to become exemplary providers focused on primary care medicine across our state.

Zia Healthcare Group is seeking a Physician Assistant to join their consulting team supporting internal medicine providers across post-acute care settings.

💼 Core Responsibilities:
• Develop individualized treatment and care plans in coordination with the primary internal medicine team
• Coordinate patient care from admission through discharge
• Conduct physical exams and patient assessments
• Order and interpret diagnostic tests and medical imaging
• Manage pain, including oral medications and procedures such as joint and trigger point injections
• Manage sleep, bowel, bladder, and appetite issues
• Collaborate with therapy teams on durable medical equipment (DME) needs
• Educate patients and caregivers on health maintenance and disease prevention
• Maintain accurate, compliant medical documentation
