The Institute for Social Research (ISR) is a research unit with the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of New Mexico. ISR’s mission is to provide high quality research and evaluation services in support of social policy and practice at the local, state, national, and international levels. Our work focuses on a number of central issues including crime, education, homeland security, terr

orism, and health care. ISR also provides an important training ground for future researchers and policymakers, employing a large pool of graduate and undergraduate students who contribute to all aspects of the research mission. ISR offers services in a wide range of topic areas. Known as an authority on adult and juvenile justice issues in New Mexico, ISR also has experience in the fields of education, economics substance abuse treatment issues, poverty and homelessness, domestic violence, employee workloads and staffing levels. ISR is dedicated to high quality research. Our staff includes sociologists, economists, and government policy experts. Evaluation is the way you show the importance of your project. The New Mexico Sentencing Commission will evaluate whether a Santa Fe program that diverts low-level drug offenders into counseling and treatment can be a model for other communities.

The study of the Santa Fe Law Enforcement Assisted Diversion program is funded with a $100,000 grant from the Open Society Foundations, a George Soros led nonprofit that backs criminal justice reform.
