Everyone needs a little TLC. To organic chemists, this means "Thin Layer Chromatography", which is a method for separating components in a mixture. Addi P lead the charge in today's lab, using TLC techniques to determine what individual molecules are in popular over-the-counter pain relievers. The verdict? You'll have to take CHM221 to find out :-)

Let’s call this picture “Perseverance.”

Allie is taking Organic Chemistry at CACC this summer while working at the local pharmacy, preparing to start at Auburn University this Fall. Despite a morning shift at the pharmacy, she came to the chemistry lab before work and made a few melting point measurements for her experiment.

Allie is one of many CACC students who epitomize perseverance. The world needs more people like Allie, and we’re truly proud to have her at CACC! 🥼🧪⚗️❤️

Wrapping up the Spring 2025 semester, CACC STEM proudly presents Jacob Howell's presentation - Surface Tension's Influence on Rate. This was Jacob's first semester in the , and he quickly learned about solution preparation, gravimetric analysis, and physicochemical properties. As far as the data goes, it's good. Real good. And the greater scientific community will benefit from these findings!

Organic students often STRUGGLE with predicting product outcomes. Part of the problem rests in how activated molecules (e.g., epoxides) are depicted in educational materials. In this presentation, Abigail Hyatt presents her findings into the structural changes that occur when epoxides undergo protonation.

Her results may cause chemists to think about the way activated, 3-member heterocycles are presented in the classroom and (possibly) in literature research.

This guy (👇) was an absolute ROCK STAR this semester. Jacob is a Dual Enrollment student from Veritas Christian School - Lake Martin. He may have initially been little nervous about taking CHM250 and working in a chemistry lab. But, over 350 data points collected from 59 experiments, he managed to obtain a complete set… before the 12th grade 🥳

We are pleased to present the first of three final research presentations for the semester (click the link below). These ladies - Hannah Dean, Alisa Jordan, and Alese Pike - studied nebulization kinetics by collecting over 750 data points from more than 120 experiments! They were also responsible for solution preparation, air compressor calibration, and spectrophotometric method development.
