NELLIE STONE JOHNSON SCHOLARSHIP
DEADLINE TO APPLY IS MAY 1ST.

Applications for the 2013-2014 academic year are now being accepted. The Nellie Stone Johnson Scholarship is available to minority students from Union families attending or planning to attend one of the 31 technical colleges, community colleges and/or state universities in the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities System.

To be eligible, a scholarship applicant must be a racial minority and a union member or be the child, grandchild, or spouse of a union member. The Scholarships, ranging from $500 to $2,000, are for students who will be attending a MnSCU tech or community college or state university in the fall of 2013.

The City of Minneapolis is currently recruiting for the 2013 Urban Scholars internship and leadership development program.

This highly competitive program will provide college students from diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds with a distinctive professional experience focused on gaining essential leadership skills and creating career pathways to positions of influence.

Urban Scholars will be exposed to the internal operations of City government by receiving:

• Direct access to the Mayor, City Council and City Hall department leaders

• A full-time paid internship in a City of Minneapolis department

• A team-based community project that will be presented to government and community stakeholders

• Leadership development training

The undergraduate taxable stipend for the 12 week internship from May 20, 2013 to August 9, 2013 is $5,200. The graduate taxable stipend is $7,559. The online application will be available starting February 15, 2013. Students are required to be permanent residents of Minneapolis and enrolled and in good standing at a 2 or 4 year college or university.
