Why do we teach our students to Stop the Bleed?

Did you know that uncontrolled bleeding is the leading cause of preventable death in trauma accidents? Stop the Bleed requires no medical background and can be done anywhere, anytime.

Did you know a person can bleed to death is 3-5 minutes, yet emergency personnel average 7 minutes before arrival at an accident? Stop the Bleed can bridge the gap of time to save lives!

Teaching the military-based techniques of Stop the Bleed to everyone can help prevent loss of lives from bleeding in mass casualties, shootings, workplace accidents, home accidents, and car crashes! Our students are trained to not only Stop the Bleed, but they can now share this knowledge with our communities to train as many individuals as possible!

Thank you to our faculty who have completed the training to be trainers for Stop the Bleed, and thank you to The Rapides Foundation for the funding to purchase the training kits for our CENLA Campus through the BSN Expansion Grant! 💜

Such a wonderful day celebrating students with a check presentation from the Lauren Vaughn Memorial Foundation to one of our Accelerated BSN students and recognizing last year’s recipient of the award. Congratulations to Alexander Guillory and Jesci Lord!

And thank you to Bridget Vaughn- Lauren’s legacy continues to live through the foundation and all the work you are doing to make our community better! 💜

Christus Cabrini is hosting another EKG Basics Course for our undergraduate students!

May 29th 08:00AM until 04:30PM on the CENLA Campus

Please register and pay by May 27th at 04:00PM by emailing Ashley Lee at [email protected]. (Include your name and date of class you will be attending)

Cost: $25.00 (non-Christus employees), $15 for NSU CENLA Student Nurses' Association members, FREE for Christus employees

Attendance required for full day to receive credit for completion.

Congratulations Kenzie Basco!!! We are so very proud of you 💜

Congratulations to Kenzie Basco, our Lily Award recipient, which honors a nursing student who demonstrates grace, resilience and devotion while answering the call to heal, comfort and serve.

Kenzie is recognized for the extraordinary perseverance and compassion she showed throughout nursing school, even while facing profound personal challenges. During her academic journey, she welcomed two children who required extended care in our NICU, all while continuing her coursework, clinical responsibilities and professional development.

Through those experiences, Kenzie deepened her empathy and strengthened her commitment to patient-centered care. Her journey as a student at Northwestern State University - CENLA Campus reflects the strength of our partnership in preparing compassionate, highly skilled nurses to serve our communities.

We are proud to celebrate Kenzie and her classmates as they carry these qualities into every patient interaction and continue their journey as exceptional future nurses.

Congratulations to our SPRING 2026 Christus Cabrini Lily Award Recipient- Kenzie Basco! Kenzie has faced many obstacles throughout her journey here at NSU but she has overcome them all with grace and resilience that are an inspiration to others. Her commitment to achieving her goal of becoming an RN is truly admirable while she has balanced her role as a mother to babies with medical needs requiring her to be bedside through hospitalizations across the state. Her experiences have not only made her stronger as a person, but have taught her empathy, compassion, and love for the nursing profession and the patients and families she will impact. Her baby girls have a true role model to guide them through life’s battles, and our community will benefit from her practicing here in CENLA!

Also recognized were our other Lily Award nominees- Dean LeBlanc and Landon Cox. Both exhibited leadership, excellent communication and collaboration skills, and exceptional care for patients and families in the clinical setting.

We are so proud of all three of our students recognized. We are thankful for the partnership with Christus Cabrini for recognizing our students for excellence in the healthcare setting. 💜

Hey CENLA Demons! Are you a new mom returning to school while still breastfeeding your newborn? The CENLA Campus now has a designated Breastfeeding Room in Building B for you to pump and store your milk while on campus! Reach out to any faculty or staff if you are needing to utilize that space. 💜 Our space has been tested and is baby-approved 💜
