This afternoon some of our team was able to support Eileen in her Capstone Project for the Women’s Leadership Academy.

The WLA is a program through the that allows students to explore, develop and fulfill their potential as leaders personally, professionally and in their communities as they meet the challenges of a complex
society.

Eileen’s project - “Swing for a Cure - For Parkinson’s Research,” involved hosting a Home Run Derby fundraiser, with proceeds supporting the Michael J.
Fox Foundation and its work in Parkinson’s research.

💜We’re excited to share a new WLA Capstone Project: Voices for Change Leadership Forum, created by Sofia Pizarro.

This forum is designed to bring together student, academic, and community voices to explore gender, leadership, advocacy, and social change through dialogue, panel discussions, exhibits, and a keynote address. With special guests and meaningful conversations, the event aims to inspire deeper understanding, intersectional awareness, and educated action.

Join us on Tuesday, March 31st from 5 to 8 PM as we celebrate a project that reflects the purpose of the Women’s Leadership Academy: turning ideas into impact!

🍀Yesterday, the Judson Leadership Center attended the annual Robinson-Judson family St. Patrick’s Day event in Buffalo.

The event brought together Alfred University alumni and students for an afternoon of conversation, networking, and connection. It was a great opportunity to meet new people, reconnect with members of the Alfred community, and enjoy this long-standing university tradition.

Thank you to the Robinson-Judson family for hosting this event and continuing this special tradition!

Hello!
Alfred University's chapter of Omicron Delta Kappa Honor Society is running a community drive this season. All donations & proceeds will go towards helping kids & families in our area that are struggling with food insecurity & other challenges. We are working with several area school districts to disperse the items in late January. If you are so inclined, please consider donating! If you are local, you can bring donations directly to our office on campus. Additional donation boxes wrapped in blue & striped wrapping paper can be found in both campus libraries, Olin, and the central Student Experience suite. We have an Amazon Wishlist for those that wish to donate that way or aren't local! If you have any questions, please connect with us at [email protected].

On this day, November 5, in 1872, Susan B. Anthony walked to a polling site on West Main Street in Rochester, New York to cast her vote in the presidential election. This act directly challenged legal definitions of citizenship and political rights in 19th-century America.

Arrested weeks later for “illegal voting,” Anthony turned her trial into a national platform for women’s suffrage, delivering her landmark speech, “Is It a Crime for a Citizen of the United States to Vote?” In it, she declared, “It was we, the people, not we, the male citizens, who formed this Union,” arguing that women were entitled to the same civil and political privileges as men under the Fourteenth Amendment. “It is downright mockery,” she insisted, “to talk to women of their enjoyment of the blessings of liberty while they are denied the use of the only means of securing them—the ballot.”

Anthony reframed voting as a constitutional matter of human rights, rather than a privilege granted by the government based on gender. Her courageous act of civil disobedience highlighted the tensions between citizenship and exclusion in Reconstruction-era America, sparking a national conversation about equality, representation, and the meaning of democracy.

Nearly half a century later, her illegal ballot found its vindication with the ratification of the 19th Amendment in 1920. Anthony’s courage reminds us that the fight for equality is ongoing—use your voice, cast your vote, and stand up for justice.
