đź’Ľ Your Campus Job Is More Than a Paycheck

Working on campus? Have a part-time job? Volunteer regularly? Don’t underestimate what those experiences are teaching you.

Employers are interested in the skills behind your experience.

For example:
🏫 Working at a campus office → communication & professionalism
🍽️ Working in food service → customer service & teamwork
🛍️ Working in retail → problem-solving & adaptability
👶 Babysitting or caregiving → responsibility & time management
🤝 Volunteering → collaboration & community engagement
📚 Tutoring → communication & leadership

The key is learning how to talk about what you’ve done and the skills you’ve developed.

That’s something the Career Development Center can help you with.

Bring us your experience — even if you’re not sure it belongs on your resume — and we’ll help you identify the skills and accomplishments worth highlighting.

đź’™ Week Two Check-In, Pioneers

And remember: you don’t have to figure everything out by yourself.

The Career Development Center is here to help you take things one step at a time — whether that means talking through career options, starting your first resume, finding an internship, preparing for a job, or simply asking questions about what comes next.

Happy Labor Day, Pioneers!

Today we recognize the contributions, achievements, and hard work of workers everywhere.

It’s also a great time to think about the role that work, experience, and opportunity will play in your own journey.

Your career doesn’t begin when you graduate. It starts with the experiences you build along the way:
đź’Ľ Your first job
🤝 A volunteer experience
🎓 A class project
🏫 A campus job
🌟 An internship
🗣️ A conversation with a professional
📚 A skill you develop in the classroom

Every experience can help you discover what you enjoy, what you’re good at, and where you want to go next.

And if you’re still figuring that out — that’s okay. That’s part of the journey.
The Career Development Center is here to help you connect your Alfred State experience to your future career.

🌟 First-Year Pioneers: Your Career Journey Starts Now

No, you do NOT need to know exactly what you want to do after graduation.

âś… Get involved on campus and build new skills
âś… Start your first college resume
âś… Meet with Career Development
âś… Explore internships and hands-on experiences
âś… Practice introducing yourself professionally
âś… Start building relationships with faculty, staff, and employers

The goal isn’t to have your entire career figured out.
The goal is to start exploring.
